Well for those of you interested, I am the first to my knowledge to get AHII running on an Intel iMac. I assume it will run on the Intel Macbook Pro's as well. And boy does it run!

The frame rates I am getting in comparison to my Alienware are insane. With animated water turned on at full graphics detail I am getting over 80 frames per second. You can actually dogfight over the ocean with animated water! Whoa!

Bear in mind one thing. You MUST disable one of the cores, and to do that you need to run a command line utility called IMAGECFG.EXE. This is the only way I know of to change the processor affinity and have it stick. You can find a download for this utility in a google search, as well as instructions on how to run it.

Put the utility in your system32 folder of you Windows system. Then from a command line type:

imagecfg -u 0x1

Obviously the path to aceshigh.exe should be in quotes without the angle brackets. Quotes because the path to aceshigh.exe is probably in some folder with a space in it. This is DOS after all.

This will restrict Aces High to a single processor. I would do this BEFORE you EVER LAUNCH Aces High. I had to reinstall several times because I think running the program without first setting the affinity may corrupt the file or some settings file it uses. Not sure on that point.

I do not think you will be dissapointed.

No the joystick and sounds all seem fine. I did have some wierdness with the headset because the built in speakers and mic seem to work whether or not the headset is plugged in or not. You need to plug in the headset, then go to the sound control panel and fiddle with things.

Yeah, the isight camera with built-in mic are tied to ichat and OSX. Is there another mic input, or did you use a usb headphone/mic combination? Were you able to get vox working?

Yes the vox works, but I did not get the mic working on the headset. Instead, it seemed that BOTH the internal speakers AND the headset were producing sound. The mic that I was using was the built-in because I unplugged the mic on the headset and still broadcast my voice.

I have the Intel iMac 20" which has a built in ATI Radeon Mobility 1600x. But I am pretty sure the 15" Macbook Pro's will work too. There is also the Intel Mac Mini, but that is single core, and I don't think the built-in graphics are all that hot. Not really sure.

A buddy of mine has been flying since 1987 but has been away from the game for a couple of months. He, too, has the imac 20inch. I told him you were running the game on it so he decided to download it. He got the game up and running but has had what appears to be video issues with it.

What's happening is when he goes into the hanger and clicks on convergence, for instance or clicks on the E6B the little pop up window begins to load then either just rotating at a high rate of speed or rotates until the window is upside odwn and out of view.

What video drivers are you using on the ATI card?

You said "every shot was a canopy shot"...the only problem was... I fimed it. You Sir, were dead in the first 15 Seconds of the fight. Low lethality in the TA is a good thing, but don't discount the VET who is in to practice (or help the newbies), because you are a "TRAINER".

In short Sir, you are not as good as you think you are (although, you are a remarkable training pilot to the new addictions, and for that I Salute you),
but should I meet you in the MA ( or dare I say it....DA), the outcome is inevitable.

LOL! The question is to ask slimpikn what video drivers he used in his new imac. This for a friend of mine. However, as soon as I get a new video card in my computer I'd be happy to meet you in the DA. You can show me whacha got!

Hi Ren. Well the built in video card is the ATI Mobility x1600. The driver for it is the one Apple creates on the driver CD that Bootcamp makes for you prior to re-partitioning the drive. I don't know of any other drivers, and would not recommend using any other drivers.

Your friend is having the same problem I had and it is because he needs to disable one of the cores. I thought I posted the procedure for that. There is a command line utility you have to download called imagecfg.exe. If you google for it you will find instructions on how to download, install and use it. The rotating clipboard is 100% proof positive your friend has not done this.

Yep he told me last night he has the X1600, also. So it's the dual cores that's causing issues.

Alright! It works for him! With Vertical Sync turned on he gets the 60FR as per the refresh rate of the monitor. It stays parked right at 60FR and not even a flicker!

Last question...are you also using a separate headset and does the imac have any problems with it?

I thought there might be issues with the pc ports are working. He should be back up flying by the weekend!

Just a little rumour for you intelmac guys... look for a not to far away update from apple to allow you to run windows apps from within OS X.

Thanks, it's already out. You can fire up xp from within in OSX and it starts in about seconds. Then no loss in speed. Not bad.....
