DAP Mark 21 Beaufighter a8
« on: April 24, 2007, 07:45:48 AM »
I would like on my wish list of aircraft to be this one the dap mk21 beaufighter.  The reason I would like to see this aircraft is that it is a dedicated low level ship killer.  Plus this model was designed & built in Australia. ( Got to remember my home land)  Low level attacks on the fleet in this game is not a very good way to stay alive & since you can gun down a cv with multiple 110 attacks why not have a dedicated plane to do the job. It can carry 8 rockets, 2x250lb bombs,or 2x500lb bombs, or 1 mk13 torpedo, 4x 20 mm cannons in the fuselage nose & 4x50 cals in the wings as well as 1x30 cal mounted in a top turret similar to the Boston.  You could with this plane punch your way in at deck level with all guns on the ship & at least take some of the ack guns out before dropping ord.  Also with the gun package the 110 HO monsters would have to think twice before going head to head with this aircraft.:aok  Any way curious to see what other peoples thoughts are.

Yes. The Beaufighter was a really mean machine and dominated the English channel. I understand the Japs weren't too keen on it either. However it doesn't seem to appear in many movies and never had the glamour of the Mosquito - so I guess it'll remain almost forgotten.

A description of the Beaufighter in a contemporary book talked about it being almost a secret weapon that all but vapourised any enemy aircraft it crossed. Definately war time propaganda but still - not an insignificant machine during it's time.

I just recently visited the Hendon RAF museum where they've got one on display. It is a really impressive machine - you have to stand in front of it to appreciate it.

Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

I am all for having Beaufighter in AH. I think it is another one of those gaps in our planeset that needs to be filled.

All for it, and if the Australians get their version, even better.

I think it had .303s, not 50cals, in the wing, but I would like to see it.

P.S. Most of the shipping it killed was frigates, freighters, lightly or un-armed stuff. I don't think it would do any better than 110Gs against AH2's CVs, but I still want to see it in-game!

He is asking for the Australian version (Beaufighter Mk. 21 IIRC), which had 50 cals rather than the 6 x .303's in the wings which the British versions had.

It would be better than the 110 in the Anti Shipping role because of the ord it carries.

Ahhh.. I know the Aussies built some planes, but I thought they stuck to the same basic design. Didn't know they had the fiddy cals!

beaufighter,110,and moss working together........ it would scare all the noobs away, although it will probably need a few high escorts from enemy planes, but i think 12x 20mm, 2x 30mm, and a few 30cals is enough.:D

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
