First, I've enjoyed the new plane. The H is a blast, no doubt about it.

My question is why is it not configured to carry rockets/torpedos? Shouldn't it be able to carry 8X5" rockets and a single torpedo?

Weren't the rockets on the -J and later models?

As for torpedos, first I've heard of it!

The bomb-bay doors stayed open, and the torpedo was slung underneath. Maybe this was only for the Navy/Marine Corps PBJ's. But the PBJ-1H could carry a single torpedo, and was fitted with 8 wing stubs for 5" rockets.

It was my understanding that they came up with skip bombing due to the fact that they couldn't mount a torpedo.I will check into it more.

I have a friend of mine who has an original B-25 flight manual and it has a section on the use of torpedoes. It also shows the sight that would be installed when carrying a torpedo.

B-25H could carry up to 3,200lbs of bombs or be fitted with stub pylons so it could carry 8 HVAR rockets and a belly rack for a torpedo.

I was just reading that they used the skip bombing due to the heavy losses from Ack fire when they bombed from Altitude, and the fact that skip bombing was way more effective.

Sweet you are right. They did use skip Bombing in new guinea. My grandfather was in the 5th air force and told me that they put a 1 to 3 second impact delay on the bombs when using this method so it wold not explode until after it went through the hull.

I think that'd be even better with the HAVRs and the Torpedo. Although I believe the -25H was used to punch holes in the side of ships with the 75mm.

But will the AH version be able to???

It wasn't so much because of the AA defenses but rather because studies showed that medium to high level bombinb was ineffective for the types of targets that were being hit. So Kenney came up with the plan of using low level attacks with skip bombs and parafrags. Flying lower actually increased the danger of the missions, especially against naval craft but the results were well worth the effort and losses.

Why wouldn't it? I was testing the gun offline last night trying to determine the range. The .target command will let you run a target out to 3000 meters, and the gun was hitting half way between center mass, and the upper-most target ring. Makes me think the effective range is 6000 meters, which matches the range in real life. If that's the case, you'll be able to pop ships without ever getting into the auto-ack range. You'll still have puffy to worry about, but when you're on the deck, it disguises your icon, making it more difficult for the gunners to see you. It's only a matter of time before someone devises a custom gunsite that will give you range to target marks. Combine icon range with the site, and then its simply a matter of lateral dispersion, which should be extremely easy to control with the massive amounts of rudder authority available on the B-25. I think someone using this gun wisely could be devastating.

As far as skip bombing, you can't currently do it yet, but you can lob bomb. I lobbed bombed a CV one night in a 190F8 and lived. Bomb hit squarely in the island, and I zoomed over the deck and sped away. Took some hits, but did live.

Anyway, back to my original post...Not so much interested in the torpedo, but the 8 rockets, combined with the internal ordnance, THE gun, and the 10 caliber .50's would make it even more potent.

I hit a Typhoon from 2.3 out and got his engine.

I hit a La-7 from 1.3 out and he vaporized.

From what i have seen the effective range for the 75mm inflight is 1.5

Whatever you do don't point it straight down.

The Bomb loadout is surprisingly good.I like watchin all the EASY mode pilots breakin thier joystick to avoid the wrath of the BFG.

I am now experimenting in Bomber hunting with it.

yeah I can say that it is foolish to HO a 25H, yet comical when someone tries it.

Took off the port wing of a Bf 109G-6 from d1.5 away with the 75mm. I don't know who was more surprised but I know one of us had a Cheshire cat grin.

One the same run, I took out this flak panzie that was providing AA cover for some tanks attacking the town. I came in low, just above tree top level and when I got within d1.5, I fired at the flak panzie. Near hit but close enough to take out his left track. Got within 800yrds and opened up with the .50s and saw smoke from the flak panzie. At 400yrds, I hit it with a direct shot from the 75mm and watched the flak panzie's turret go flying upwards past my nose and up and over my plane. Wish I had filmed it, it would have made a really cool screenshot.
