SAPP Tank Hunting Lessons
« on: February 10, 2008, 05:56:34 PM »
Historically the P38 was used often, in particularly in the ETO for hunting armor and ground vehicles.  The 9th Air Force 38 drivers would load up with bombs, take off and go hunting.  During the Battle of the Bulge in fact, one 38 Group, the 474th, with the Panzers getting close to their field, had 38s lined up with their guns pointing down the roads just in case.

We at SAPP have refined the this idea and taken the P38 tank hunting while not really sitting still, but not getting airborne either.

Note the Panzer in the distance as I try and sneak up on him.

The advantage of those turbocharged Allisons as they are a bit quieter then a tank engine so you can sneak up on em.

Hey buddy!  I'm right here!

Note that the panzer driver is still without a clue   as his cannon is pointed somewhere else and his MG is silent.  OK Pardner...draw!

Oops!  You lose!   There ya have it.  Tank killing in the 38 made easy :)

I can't help but hear a Crocodile Dundee voice in my head saying "Look at that beauty over there!" as you "sneak" up on him lol.

Or maybe, "You call THAT a knife? THIS is a knife!" Just insert "cannon" and you're good to go!

Am I the only one who wonders how he killed the tank with his 20mm and 4 50s?  No tracers, smoke, shell casings.. where are the smoking guns?:noid
