Interested-Few Questions
« on: February 11, 2008, 08:12:09 PM »
Hey guys, I'm interested in joining in on this KOTH events as I think I will have fun and hopefully learn something:D .

Anyway, I read the rules and the description on the ahevents homepage, but I still have a few questions.

So I understand how the planes are chosen for that particular round, etc, but...
So is it where everyone starts at the same base, flys out at different directions for a little while and then comes back to and engages the nearest con?  Do you have to worry about another con engaging you if you are already engaged or do you have to wait until one of them is shot down/ move on and look for another fight?

Could someone elaborate on the "no joy" rule a little more please?

Are wabbits just people who have to win one more round to win, and do they get some sort of identifier that they are a wabbit?

If you get shot down early on (like I'm thinking I will:D :cry ) is there a way to watch what is going on between the people left in play, or do you have to exit and leave?  I understand that there is absolutely no talking between people still in play and those out right?  So I assume perhaps not since it could lead to that. What about talking to people you're in a fight with?  Talking with people still in if you are still in (obviously not about stuff like so and so is over there, or maybe?)?

Thanks

Basically yes. We all get some seperation, then the carnage begins.

You do have to worry. It's not the DA. Head to the closest enemy/fight and shoot 'em down!

Before the fight begins, everybody is trying to get seperation. But that doesnt always work perfectly, so before the CM gives it a go, there is the "No Joy" period. If you see a con (for example me) closer to 5k, you can call "No Joy, Lusche!" - we both have to find another first fight. But we both can agree to ignore that, if nobody calls "No Joy" we are free to fight.
Once the CM declared "Fight is on!", there is no more NoJoy, of course.

Yes, that's a wabbit. They have no special tag, but of course you can use .wingman command to identify them ;)

CM eye is available to watch all the fights, no need to leave. Setup of CM Eye is explained in Arena Message

During a fight, there should be no talking going on between people still inflight... at least that's how I understood it ;)

Sweet thanks for that.

One more question.  Do people generally think that one lacks class if they swoop down out of nowhere and "pick" people who are in a 1v1 or is it pretty much what most people do if they happen across that situation.

I'm just trying to get a "feel" for the mentality of this event if you know what I mean.

Radio chatter of any kind in flight is really distracting, so it's best to keep it to a minimum.. i.e. nothing.

Just follow the rules that you do see.  Any unwritten rule that you try to respect will get stepped on sooner or later.

You HAVE to engage. You are not allowed to skirt a fight. Do not wait till a 1v1 is over. Again, it's not the DA.

Here is the entire list of Rules.  Fuzeman is the FriKOTH CM, I am the SatKOTH CM.

They are held twice a month, 1 on friday of a month, other on a saturday of a month.  Dates will be posted here in the KOTH forum and on the calendar.

Any more ?'s, feel free to ask.

Da' Rules...

**********************************************
> TUNE RADIO 5 to CH 101, [ .radio 5 101 ] <
**********************************************
This is NOT a chatroom, keep the chatter to a minimum.
Excessive talkers to people inflight will be muted.

The Rules Of Engagement for KOTH.
1) Fighter, Fighter/Attack, and most Bomber/Attack planes
 can be used.
* Do not use rear guns on attack planes.
* No B5N2, Ju 88A-4, B25's, B26's or Ki-67.

2) ALL players will take off from the same field.
* Fuel and ammo loadout is pilot's choice.

3) Allow everyone adequate separation on roll-out (5K min).
* If under 5k before fight called, the 'NoJoy' rule applies.

3A) When 'NoJoy' time announced, call nojoy if too close.
* When the fight starts, you can not attack a player you
nojoyed.
* You must find someone else to fight first.
* If BOTH people agree to fight after separating they can
cancel their nojoy.

4) Maximum altitude is 6K during the fight, no exceptions.
* Wind will be 180MPH straight up, End Flight, ".ef" if you
do.
5) The distance boundary is the giant 20k crater wall.

6) NO WINGING! (dogpiling on a 2-timer is NOT winging)
* Winging is a coordinated attack on a single plane or when
engaged with multiple targets passing up obvious shots on
certain targets.

7) Skirting the edge of the fight is prohibited.
* Either be IN a fight, or headed TO the closest fight at
all times!

8) Running (refusing to engage) for an extended period of
time is prohibited.
* After 30 seconds you must reverse and merge.

9) If your engine dies, your plane is unflyable due to
damage, or you run out of ammo, End Flight ".ef" immediately.
* Fuel, oil, or radiator damage is OK until your engine
stops running.
* Pilot wounds and burning planes are OK until you die or
explode.
* You need to be in powered and controlled flight at all
times.
* Controlled flight means you can perform general flight
maneuvers if needed. If you can't you should end flight.

10) If you get shot down, please End Flight ".ef"
* Do not linger on the ground if you ditch or in a chute,
it is a distraction to people still fighting.

11) If you are one of the last two, anything goes. Then
 fight to the death!

12) Winner of previous round picks the plane for the next
 round.

13) Win three rounds and you win the event and are KOTH
for the month.

14) Film your rounds incase there is a issue, U can back
it up with film if there is a problem.  Films can be emailed
to me at oldmaddog@rcn.com.  If I get any films during
the halftime break, I will Review them and DQ any pilot that
breaks any rule for that round.

**************************************************
Unless you are one of the last two. Then fight to the death!
**************************************************

TO WIN...
you just have to win three rounds... It's easy!

Most Importantly...

HAVE FUN!!!!

*Use CM-eye [F5] mode to enjoy the action after you die!*
You may have to set up CM-Eye for it to work, here's how.
There are a few ways of course but it is easier to set up
a 'Mode 3' and use your joystick buttons and throttle.

1) Go into Options > Controls > Map Controlers
2) Open the Mode Selection menu, select 'Mode 3'
3) Hit the 'Copy Mode 1' button
4) Select Button 0, set to 'View CM Eye Move Forward'
5) Select Button 1, set to 'View CM Eye Move Backward'
6) Select Button 2, set to 'View CM Eye Move Map'(optional)
7) Go to 'Map Keys' and set an available key to
select Mode 3.

I personally set it to the * on the keypad.
However, there are other keys you can use.

CM Eye should now work.
Hit F5 from the Tower, then your key to enter Mode 3.
Joystick buttons 0, 1 and 2 will move you around in CM Eye.
Your throttle controls how fast you move.

7) Go to 'Map Keys' and set an available key to
select Mode 3.

I might add that the / and * key's on your Numpad are ideal to use.

Map Mode 1 to the Forward Slash  /
Map Mode 3 to Asterisk  *  on the Numpad.

Press F5 to go Into CM Eyemode.  Adjust Throttle for Speed Controll.  Rudder for Left and Right.  Hold down the button you mapped for CM Eye Move Forward (or Backwards) and zip around the battlefild watching people fight.  (great way to pick up some tricks or figure out how a player is beating you)

When you are done press F1 to go back in to the Tower and the / on the Numpad to go back into Mode 1.  *DON'T FOGET TO GO BACK INTO MODE 1"  I lose wep and flaps when I forget to change out of Mode 3 and it has cost me.

You can also do that using a single key.  I use the N key
Under Mode 1 - Map key to Select Mode 3
Under Mode 3 - Map key to Select Mode 1
