Rotating Enviroment Arena
« on: February 29, 2008, 02:16:59 AM »
Stolen suggestion from KKen's thread about Day\Night Arena, modified.

I know I won't be saying anything that prolly hasn't been said 1000 times already. I haven't roamed this neck of the woods in quite a while.

I know there are issues among the masses about Night and Weather. OTOH to pull it seems to cater to the Gamers, while at the same time taking away from the Simmers. Both elements exist. While some things may not fit well in other areas it would be a great thing to still have the option to experience the game's\sim's full potential at some time or another. To remove it from the everyday player is sort of an injustice to big picutre. Like pulling a section from a ring and still expecting it to be never ending.

An arena that rotates different environment each day, or the likes of.

Examples
Monday - 4 hour Day\Night cycles.
Tuesday - Weather cycles
Wednesday - Free Flying (no perks) or Jet Day
Thursday - 4 hour Day\Night cycles + Weather cycles

First off, IMO, search lights would add a new (almost required) element to anything to do with Night time. This would fill a big hole in Night time and require team work and make things much more interesting. I'm sure I am missing a lot of things here, since I am a reborn newbie to AH.

This arena could also be a testing ground, a way to acquire research data, or showcase special items in the game, new and old. Things that have great value but whined out of the main arenas or existence. If used correctly it could also be a Marketing tool. Especially giving newbies a chance to play the game with it's full potential, a dose of real eye candy. And remove monkies off the backs of some who still like these items. By rotating the area you would not have to worry about filling it 24/7 based on one single idea. It would condense those certain players in there on certain nights,... one night a week.

Just a thought.

He speaks of this thread:

http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=227946

May have been misplaced, wasn't certain, as I stated.

Just a new idea on an "old issue" that would please the masses and not harm or effect others' ability to play and do their thing.

If you go there, read the whole thing. Please. It's not the "same old thing".

I'd like to think it's a way, the only way IMO, that night time is doable.

I'd love to see a rotation of daytime into nighttime. As it is now (Unless changed after H2H closed) Dusk immediately jumps to Dawn when the sun sets instead of going into nighttime. It would be nice if we could have an actual 24 hour environment instead of 12.:)

But it really should be proportioned to night like the MA is to daytime. Maybe an hour of daylight (max) would be cool, but I am inclined to think having mostly dawn, dusk and night gives it that extra flavor that we don't have now. My selling point is for the option for everyone to have that opportunity as they see fit..and not really have to even "wait an hour" for the sun to go ... er down  :)
for the option I proposed

I think that having (moderately) realistic weather and/or night time would be excellent additions to an additional arena, one which might aim to produce a fuller immersion in AH.

IMO, the lack of weather and night time are two key factors that limit AHII's realism more than any other current factor.

For even more immersion, AvA with weather and night.  Imagine Luftwaffe Nightfighters taking on Lancs over Germany, or night bombing of London during the blitz.

While I hoped a Night Arena would be best, this solution, with weather, a 24 hour cycle of day and night, may be still an option and not off the table.

I hope it might contains many options, even seasonal things :)  Some killer maps from scenarios might even be cool, Stalins 4th had the neatest towns and Vehicle bases. I recall DGS was a winter wonderland!  hehehe

All in all, a good idea as well. (maybe even better!)

The only other thing I could suggest upon this idea at this time would be that the arena rotation avoids weekend events to some degree, if successful.  Don't make it too interesting that it draws from events. ( I don't think that's a problems as of yet)

If I had to slap a sign on it it would probably be read "Extreme Environments Arena" or EEA.

It's my thought that this idea could make things interesting when other things that stay the same become somewhat redundant.

If you don't have something new\fresh all the time, people tire and interest tends to fade. It can takes weeks to come up with new effects or concepts. A rotating arena will aid in keeping things somewhat new or different on a steady basis. It should also free up creative resources to be implemented somewhere else in the game. Instead of beating head against wall to retain interest in a not so popular area.

It's not that I am saying "this is THE idea" it's A idea. I'm not going to beat it up or down. I'm not going to whine the loudest until it comes true. I'm not going to battle it out with negative input or whiner types. If the power of suggestion doesn't work then nothing will. IMO, If you have to pound the ground to make it happen it's probably not that well thought out and needs convincing to cover empty bases, I call those false positives or politics. While they may sell they don't produce return\happy customers. A good idea never needs a protest, it just makes sense on it's own.

I would hope that it at least be honestly considered.

If you like the idea, support it. If you don't then you're probably just not part of the target audience, no need to waste bandwidth to distract from a subject that doesn't effect you. If you have better ideas spill them.

Nice job expanding on it. I'll support any "radical" ideas for change, as you know. :)

When Combat Tour (CT) gets off the ground and running, it may have that sort of impact and may include many of the things or ideas expressed. We do not know. HTC has put many man-hours into CT and may have a plan and purpose for many things not discussed or implemented to date. I trust their judgement and, like it or not, fully support their decisions.

Just saying...

If you fear rejection on the BB's then you have some serious emotional issues.
