Sweet!

A bit of a request for a plane I will never fly, but I'd like to see one of Pokryshkin's P39s in game.

Make one w/ all the stars of the kills he had. :D

Nice Work!   :aok

Really like the 19th GIAP skin - not the usual "Plane OD" as you see on most Ruskie Cobras.

Some very nice P-39 skins Fencer. It is unusual to see a VVS plane with red stars on the upper wings, are you sure that's right?

I am sure of NOTHING when it comes to these skins.  I have only a photo of the Q and a profile of the D and a couple small photos, as well as very few reference materials on Russian aircraft.

There's a pretty good write up of VVS P-39 markings here:-

The winter camo'd P-39s shown here look like an interesting project too.

Thanks Greebo.

I had seen that site, it does talk like the Q would have had stars on the upper wing(s) ala US standard from the factory.  P-39s on show at several museums in a semi restored state seem to bear this out (airliners.net).  If however you think otherwise please state so.

As to the Airacobra I there would have been an RAF roundel of some sort on the upper wing.  Would they have painted it out and left it, or applied a star.  And this for one wing only?  Should I remove the stars from White 15?

I'm always a little suspicious of modern warbird schemes, models, or profiles for that matter. The standard VVS scheme was for no stars above the wings, but there were exceptions.

I've had a look through my books and on the few photos of Lend Lease aircraft that show the top of the wingtips and there are no stars, just painted out Western insignia. But thats half a dozen photos and only one of a P-39, so not really a representative sample. Cit's default scheme was of a plane dragged out of a lake recently and this had no stars above the wings.

So I don't know if your Airacobras had stars above the wings or not, but my guess would be probably not.

This is an interesting one.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.
