AKAK's auger....not a pretty sight...
« on: August 07, 2008, 01:01:24 PM »
There was a tragedy during SAPP landing practice last night.  Our high alt specialist decided to go for the low alt record.  I had my film rolling and caught the attempt as it happened.

AKAK feeling for the runway to see if the 'water is warm'

Apparently it was deep as well

Naturally he tried to breath underwater...er...under runway

And the view from the trailing 38 that completed the SAPP landing successfully, although there was a lot of smoke and flames on the runway for some reason :)

Omg, he forgot to deploy the chute on landing. All high alt specialist knows that!

I'm suprised you land your 38 though corkie. Everytime I take a 38 out, I never make it back home. It's either not enough fuel to make it back home, or the baddies just won't let me go home :(

Akak doesnt land, he gets beamed down like scottie from star trek, landing would force him to be below 20k   :noid Btw you should see a bunch of drunk muppets try and land after a sortie  :rofl

I give it an 8.5

The points for style are good, but if he came in upside down he would of gotten more points for difficulty :aok

Oh hey I do have a question for you 38 pro out there. Usually I fly 109s for furballing. I've never been a fan of 38 since AW1 days. However I been giving 38 a few try in AH2. I don't log a lot of hours in 38s in AH2, probably no more then 4 hours so I really don't know anything about the plane. Only thing I know of its performance are from fighting in 109s and 190s v. other 38.

My series of questions are:

1. With both engines, do they have each engine torque a different way so it would cancle out the torque effect? I mean I can see or at least feel it on taking off. I haven't pay attention when turnfighting it since I rarely fly it.

2. With the torque effect cancel (if true) does this mean at low speed such as on top of loop you won't be able to use throttle to control your roll (torque)? This would be advantage and disadvantage depends on the fight (allows you to roll to any direction while stalling ontop of rolling scissors w/ full power if needs?)

3. I've fought against spits often in 38, usually I don't run into a good spit pilot so it's np. Once in a while some rly good spit stick shows up and I can't shake em that easily when they start going horizontal turns even with series of rolling scissors they still try to force the fight on the horizontal. Which I think my 38G can't handle that well vs spit in the horizontal.

 In this situation if I break it and go on the vert, try to force hanging prop, or force the spit to bleed E in the Scissors and having my 38 keep rolling to the right on top of rolling scissor at full power to maintain E and eventually maybe can bring it to an E fight?. I have heard that 38 got an exellent verticle fight out of any plane. With prop hanging and such? I think the spit16s can maintain the vert just as good as 38 if not better? But can it keep its nose up as long as 38 or would it stall out first?

4. Those with dual throttle, can they use that to their advantage with turning fighting. Example if on top of rolling scissor if they want to roll that 38 and point it downward would it be easier to chop 1 engine throttle forcing the torque to work to make it roll and reverse faster? or is that too much micro for a lil benefit? Delirium probably got the answer for this one.

5. Differences betwen 38G, J and L? beside the letters? G can turns a better but has no wep and maybe 20% less engine power? J balanced between power/turnining radius? L most power, but worst turning radius? Ord Loadout.

Props rotate opposite to cancel torque.

You can throttle engines seperately to get torque if required.

There are a few tricks to handling spits.... better shown in TA that explained here.

Spixteens can hang with the 38 very well..... they do suffer from torque once slow. You can take advantage of that effect.

Dual throttles help immensely on snap rolls..... also helps with certain vert maneuvers.

G = lightest
J= wep and speed
L= boosted control surfaces and loadout.... dive flaps too

My normal loadout is 75% and full ammo. I will take 2 DTs on long hauls. The 38 has some long legs so once your up you can loiter if required.

No expert... I usually fly like ray charles.... all by feel.

That's not AKAK, admit it Dan.  You swiped a 479th bird because the parts for your 38 were on backorder from the last wreck and your afraid the 479th crewchief is going to chase after you with a wrench or something for doing that to his bird.

Framing poor, ocassionally innocent AKAK like that.... foreshame....

As I told CorkyJR last night, my left wing started itching really bad so I thought it would be a good idea to scrape it along the runway to relieve the itching.  In hindsight, it proved to be a better idea in theory rather than practice.

During lunch break I took the 38J up and tested it w/ the new technique and tips from you guys and other 38 threads. Rather then finding a bunch of baddies and run into them I tried to live this time=).

38 seems pretty good as multiple tasks. E fight pretty well, BnZ okay. Stall fight greats. The guns are not as lethal as the D-9 but the ability to stallfight it's just freaking awesome. I didn't take it to a high dive yet so I didn't come close to compression. Usually at what speed do 38s go into compression? I been diving but it was a controlled dive chop throttle and hard rudder to skid if I was going too fast. I like the ballistic of the 50s though, in D9 I usually have to wait til 200 to open fire. In 38s I've been firing at 400 yards and hitting my targets just fine.

Anyway, I like to spend sometime w/ a good 38 pilot in DA working on tnbin it. If you could help please PM me. The lunch flight was pretty successful! I think I'm going to switch from D-9 to 38 for a while  :D.

Almost a SAPP like landing! I just forgot to flip it upside down on final approach.

38 is a great buff killers too ! 7 of em kills were buffs.

Is there a fuel tank burn order in the 38s? Or it's fine w/ auto?
