T-34/76

If felt it more appropriate to continue this thread from the Bug Report forum and answer Enker's question here:

Best example for this are EW T34/76 duels. Two "average" players can stand off at D800 and shoot each other until they run out of ammo.
But if you know where to hit, it's a one-shot kill.

Erm, for reference, where would that be? Also, where would that be from an IL-2's/Hurricane IID's perspective?

In a close-mid range T34/76 duel you should aim for one of those three points:

Head on:
- Hit the gun mantlet to kill his gun or
- Hit the edge where upper and lower glacis do meet right under drivers hatch (see pic). Harder to hit but instand death.

From side
- Hit between the first and the second roadwheel

At long & very long ranges it's better to concentrate on hitting a track. After a few hits he's basically immobile.

With Il-2 and Hurricane 2D it's important to dive as steeply as possible onto your prey. Aim for turret top or engine compartment top. With the Hurricane, you have to dive almost vertically to get penetration. With the 37mm version of the Il-2, you can get penetration at lesser angles. But still: The steeper the better, and you are also avoid being shot down by the tank gun that way.
Killing the T34 with the 23mm version is almost impossible.

If I can add to Lusche's soft spots on a T34. If using HVAP rounds and shooting as much as u can from a 90 degree angle from the turret. Anywhere on the turret will take out the main gun. From head on aim straight to his gun to shoot inside his barrel, it will take out main gun. From behind the tank, you have the same spot as the front armour edge that Lusche showed in his picture. This could kill him instantly or take out his engine. Still from the back if you decide to shoot an HVAP in the turret when he's trying to get away you will take out the main gun, or engine. Those spots are between 2 t34's. In the good old days when the HVAP did not exist a normal AP round would not take out the gun so you only had the tracks to shoot at or the edge of the armour. It made for some interesting tank  battles in EW. Now for a defensive manoeuver against the front armour or turret shot, come in at the other tank on a slight angle so you don't face the HO   :) Will give more of a chance for the incoming round to bounce off on an angle and maybe save you until the next round comes in  :D Hope this helps   :aok
