Air Raid at Thelepte Airfield

On Friday January 15, 1943, the P-40 Warhawks of the 33rd Fighter Group 12th USAAF were attacked
by a surprise low level enemy air raid. This day the pilot's of the 33rd FG went aloft to shoot down 8 of 9
Ju88s. These Ju88s were escorted by C202s of the Regia Aeronautica. The ensuing scramble
and air battle resulted in the 33rd FG's "Best Day" of the war.

Arena:
SEA

Country Percentages:
Allies: 40%
Axis: 60%

Allies:
Units:
P-40E 100%

Orders:
Launch from A65 and repell the enemy air raid.

Restrictions:
Aircraft my launch only when the A65 begins to flash.

Axis:
Units:
Ju88 60%
C202 40%

Orders:
Launch from base A8 and destroy the hangers at A65. The C202 are to stay in visual range of the Ju88s as fighter escorts.

Restrictions:
The C202s must carry 100% fuel. The Ju88s have a 8k altitude restriction. No ordnance restrictions.(Formations must be OFF...)


Victory Conditions:

Allies:
Axis Bombers: 3pts ea.
Axis Fighters: 1pt ea.

Axis:
Allied Fighters: 2pts ea.
All Field Hangers: 3pts ea.

Arena Settings:
1. Terrain – Tunisia
2. Icon Range - short
3. Wind – 5 kts W
4. Time – Start time and Multiplier ( 14:00 x 2)
5. Fighter and Bomber Warning Range - 52,800 about 10 miles
6. Enemy Collisions - On
7. External view for bombers (F3) - On
8. Visibility - 17
9. Friendly Collisions - Off
10. Fuel – 1.5
11. Ack - .3
12. Kill Shooter - off
13. Tower Range – 52,800 for display to match the above setting.
14. Radar - Off

Designers Notes:
Flight time and altitude will allow for second frame.

Seems the P40's will not have nearly enough time to climb up to meet the bombers especially when they have to start from runway. the JU'88s are very fast bombers, and the C202's have a much better climbrate. Seems this battle if the 88's are to hit the target from just 8k then rtb, will be a little 1 sided.

Yea, I hear you Twintail. But it is a historical mission. The P-40 pilot's have one advantage, "NO Restrictions". We'll have to hope that their good pilots. If you think about it there is a way to intercept the bombers at altitude in that time frame. Remember the bombers will be ten miles out at the time the base starts to flash.

I like this.

I think the point values should be adjusted to normal SEA levels.

Also, giving the allies the benefit of radar may even the advantage out a little bit.
