Test to run......
« on: August 02, 2009, 09:50:26 AM »
It's the weekend and I'm not sure if this is/ could be a bug until Hitech checks it out on Monday -  but I wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue....or can replicate it.

I can duplicate it on 2 pcs, both dual core, one ATI / one NVIDIA graphics card...

So far I can only duplicate it part  of the time (1/2?)....but it is showing up.

1. log on, go to a late war arena. Go to a field that's near some action.
2. Fly - use auto climb...
3. Right click map, bring up net status.
4. Watch net status for a sawtooth pattern...if no pattern (alt f4 out, start game and try again) Repeat around 10 times to see if sawtooth shows up.
5. If sawtooth pattern shows up, keep climbing, then crash yourself into the ground.
6. re-up plane after crashing - see if sawtooth pattern is gone.

here's what it looks like in variance:
**note*** I've seen the pattern as high as 1 on variance.

I've had this problem both before and after the update when I've forgotten to shut down all unnececssary services. If you're running vista, check your services running against Skuzzy's list in the tech forum and shut down those you don't need and also shut down BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service). That cured it for me. AH runs great with all this cleared up.

<edit> by shutting down BITS I mean set it's properties to manual and stop the service. You'll likely have to stop this service every time you play AH after restarting your computer - I do, so I check it every time before starting AH.</edit>

Hope this helps
Cheers,

I noticed 2 things yesterday.  1) the saw blade effect. 2) Host queue time was very gappy.   In fact I rebooted my cable and PC several times.  The saw blade showed up once but the host queue was intermitent.  Climb out and fighting.

I knew there was something up when I blasted a con.  There were no hit sprites and the con just pixalated into nowhere.  This caused me to check net stats and noticed this very gappy host queue.  It was after I logged out / in I noticed the saw blade whilst in tower.

Did several restarts and thought maybe it's my ISP or some poxy hop screwing up.   I'll monitor my connect this evening and get back to you.

Im one of those with ehavy stutters still, but I couldnt replicate a saw-tooth pattern in flight yet

However, I was getting it once while just sitting in Oclub:

I immediatley checked connection to this arena with pingplotter, no lost packets or similar troubles

I restarted game and tried it again, but no saw-tooth
But I continued to sit in Oclub, and I noticed I still got heavy stutters & framerate variances:

Each time a friendly spawned on runway - stutter, even though I cound't see them - but hear.
When I was looking around in the Oclub using my TrackIR  I got stutters again, with a huge framerate drop - same stuff I'm getting inflight.

compatibility mode
no detailed terrain or water
stock ah sounds

again, running without compatibility mode removes all thoses issues but the game is unstable then.

I was always told that the saw tooth like you guys are posting is due to spyware. Is this true?
