Upstage asked me if I could do a P-47 skin for his squad, the 365th FG, and this is it. This aircraft was one of the first bubbletop Thunderbolts and was flown by 6 kill ace Lt. Col. Robert Coffey between D Day and the 11th July when he was shot down by flak. Coffey managed to evade capture and make his way back to friendly lines.

Glad to see this one come back into the mix again. Nice pick up on how the d-day stripes in the profile don't match the picture in it's destruction phase.

Here are a few more pictures of said aircraft.

Yes i was about to comment on that same thing, the d day stripes in the original picture continue to the top of the fusealoge and down the other side all the way around.

No, they don't.  They are painted over.  Look at the "4" where they left enough between it and the "paint over" so it shows up.  The "4" was on a white stripe so it would stand to reason that if the stripes went over the top it would be white above the "4" and not dark.

It's like in the profile and on the skin.  OD covers the invasion stripes above the Star.

Seems to me it's a pretty good indicator that the Jug survived into July when the top invasion stripes were painted over.  It's clear that it carried both full and then partial invasion stripes.  Personally I like the partial invasion stripe look better.  Nice work Greebo! Smiley

I like the painted-over look aswell. Why I fly Oboe's 479th 'Swanaa Jr." That's a paint-over eh?

Looking forward to using this skin in-game greebo!

Also the top portions of the wings have the invasion stripes painted over as well not just the fuselage & Greebo caught that too. Thumbs UP!

Thank you Citabria, that means a lot coming from you. I'm 90% certain I got an acceptance email for this skin in the last batch, but I can't check for certain until I get home tonight. As the P47D-25 slots are all full this skin is probably being held in the queue.
