FRAPS question
« on: November 24, 2010, 11:55:31 PM »
ok.....i was trying the trial version of fraps.

when i'm flying normally, i run a solid 75fps. nothing drops it. 'cept for fraps. when i try running fraps at 60fps, and full size, i'm in the single digits on my game fr.
someone suggested 30fps and half size on fraps. it still drops me to 50-60fps in game, and on 2 occasions, brought me into the teens. i run a good system, and feel like i;m missing something.

anyone else use this, and have any suggestions?

thanks!

don't run fraps in game.  Film your sortie then go to your film maker turn on fraps and then edit it <<S>>

i had thought about that....but i'm trying to have it at a point when it'll catch the blackouts, and redouts in flight, which are not shown in the film viewer. also, in the ava, there is often weather. we had a mere 5 mile visibility a couple weeks ago...very hazy.....this also doesn't show on the film viewer.

if there's a better program for this, i'd be willing to try somethign else too....i know there's bunches of you guys that make these films.

Live capturing is always a resource hog. It has to grab the screen, code it and save it on disc, all while you are playing. Unless you have a vastly overpowering system (=much more HP than you need to run AH at it's current settings), you will always feel a big FR hit.

I've also been putting some thought into this lately; similarly I'm not happy with the AH film viewer playback quality (for movie making). One avenue of investigation that seems worth following is the twin monitor capability of modern graphics cards. I know from experience that if you use a second monitor and assign a seperate view to it, you get a big frame rate hit. But I suspect (although haven't tried) that if you assign the same view to both monitors the frame rate should be ok. If this is the case, all you'd need to do is attach some sort of capture/record device to the second monitor port, but it's at this point that my technical ignorance comes to the fore  :headscratch: Maybe by putting the idea out there someone with actual knowledge in this department can come up with something?

I'm running two SC and I get 75 fps.

Cap I'll install Fraps possibly later today and see what it does to mine.  I'm running an 8800 card but I cheated.  TD put a mobo in and configured my system for me in mid summer.

Your HDD most likely isn't fast enough to save 60fps at 1080p resolution.

I have a evga 465 on an e8400 processor oc to 3.8.  fraps will push my fps down into the 30's, not a big deal for me, but the problem is the stutters.  but filming the black outs and turns using trackir is priceless.  fps is better when there's only a few planes over the water but over cv ack and big furballs, forget it.  on the other hand the stutters make it look like my plane is jumping due to ack hitting nearby, hey free forcefeedback :D.

you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

the problem i have when it's pushed into the 30's is that it's constant mini-stutters at that point.........

shirly.....you had a chance to install yet, to see how it works for you??
