 my time zone is pst.
best time for training is 5-7 pm. mon-sat. sundays optional
my 2 favorite plane to fly are the p38l and the b24 bomber

I'd like to prefect all my flying skills and learn so I can go on missions with everyone else
I also want to learn the radio and all forms of communication.
A little about myself is that I am 53 and retired due to a non life threatening problem
I really like airplanes and play to win so this game fits the bill to a ( T ) so with that in mind

I can help you with the basics although I am not an official trainer.  If you want to learn the P38L the man to talk to is Soulyss. You can message him through here.

For bombing with the 24's I recommend reading the tutorial on bombing available on the trainer's website, which links from the main AH page. When planning a bomb run, make sure you level out at least 1 sector before reaching your target. It takes that long for the plane's speed to stabilize.

One last thing...be advised you will be catching an awful lot of incoming fire while you are learning. It's part of the curve. Be patient, visit the training area frequently, and read every article in the training section.  The rewards are worth it.

Welcome aboard. Now just fly straight and level and someone will be by to help you, probably in a 109.  :D

Hi Runaround, welcome to Aces High.
Your in game handle is limited to 8 characters so it's probably not runaround.
If you haven't already done so you might read through the help files at www.hitechcreations.com and the trainer's page at trainers.hitechcreations.com
There's a one page quick reference on the trainer's page you might want to print out.

I'm East coast so one of the other trainers will probably be a better fit for you but I'm usually in the Training Arena Saturday morning 7-9 your time if you can make it that early.

The best (and most boring) advice someone ever gave me was to go to offline mode in your favorite plane and shoot at the circling planes for as long as you can stand it and from every angle/distance combination you could possible imagine until you get a "sight picture" burned into you brain.  Gunnery will become second nature and "aiming" will not be as  tedious as it was in the beginning.

Your on muzzy , sure if you would like to take a crack at training me some that's cool I can be your student for a minute.
So whats my first assignment. and thanyou
Yes I will read the trainers website daily
As for incoming fire maybe I could put my bomber on auto takeoff, jump in a truant and let em know I shoot back,, now that's a thought I"ll have to retry it.
Seriously though I expect as much and sooner or later I'll get up there
I stand (new) Ha! Ha! my in-game user name is not runaround it is shoefly2,thanks for bringing that to my attention FLS
Thanks for the warm welcome to aceshigh I look forward to improving my skills so we can see each other up there.

Welcome!  I'm somewhat of newbie myself...be prepared to spend a month or two just learning the basics.  And spend as much time with a trainer as you can - that will give you a MUCH quicker bootstrap in your skills and knowledge.

What  also really helped me learn the basics was this offline mission from USRanger:

Von Messa has the working answer. I have flown for over a year or so and just learned about two neat features. Anywhere you fly you can type .target then a number. Turn your plane due north and you will have a target show up on the screen. The number is the distance you are measuring. Type .target 400, pull the trigger and see where your rounds are hitting at 400. The trick of this is to give you confidence on bullet grouping.

The other is only found within the Training Arena. I believe it is 'ctrl' 'tab' and it shows where your bullets are going to land. You fly behind any planes, to include friendlies and you will see x's where you should aim to hit the other plane. This gives you a sense for what kind lead to give targets to land some hits. I learned that in close I don't even enough lead, and I generally need to curve the lead as the plane ahead of me is turning on two axis'.

Between the three you should have a pretty good idea of what to practice. I would then spend some time just straight furballing in the Dueling Arena.

Just my three cents.

I done what you said mthrockmor and the only thing I got from it was that the engine on the p38L I was fling shut off when I hit the e  typing the word target.
So what did I do wrong? or did I need to be in a training area to make that maneuver work?
I,m very new to this world A8TOOL would you please tell me what ch products are ?

you have to type the target command on the radio.  Exact instructions would be, hit the / key, which activates the radio box, then type

.targetx where x is the range you want to look at.

Mostly this is useful for setting up convergence (the point where all the fire from your guns intersect each other), but convergence is only a major issue with planes that have wing mounted guns. If you are flying the 38, all the guns are nose mounted, so you can set convergence at maximum range (650) and not worry about it.

Hi Runaround, I would like to help you.

I am by far not the best stick in this game, but I have been here for almost 10 years and a couple in Air Warrior before that. I die alot, but I get a few along the way (even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally).

I am not one of the trainers here, but I have trained a few pixel pushers in my time. <G>

I'm pretty sure I can help you with fighters and bombers. GV's...well...I fly, if I want to drive somewhere I hire a driver.

I will make a point of being in the TA Saturday night around 8pm central.

Hope to see you there.

cheers,

RTR

I know what you mean runaround, it would be so much easier to just have someone stand there and tell you what to do. However, this being an on-line game that doesn't have the following of COD, or WoW it pretty hard to run into folks in your area playing. So it falls to you, you did say you would do anything to learn the game, well here's your chance!

First, ask questions here on the boards. Most people will help you out, and with that I'll answer your questions above....

The "target" is one of many "dot" commands I put together a tutorial on dot commands HERE! you most likely missed the dot (.) in front of the word target.

CH is a brand name for game controllers. CH Products makes just about the best game controllers. A lot of those flying in this game have a joystick, throttle, and rudder pedals. You CAN fly with just a mouse, but it's very difficult and a joystick is recommended.

OK that answers your questions, here the part where you will do anything, well this is what you should do. Go to the trainers site and read everything! Watch all of the tutorials I built (shameless plug  :D ).  You can find the trainers site HERE. I know it's slow reading all of that info, but it will get you a great start in this game. Again, when you run into questions about things you don't understand ( and you will, everyone does!) come back here and ask! There are no "stupid" questions.

Good luck and welcome to your next most favorite game !!!
