Very nice work. My compliments.

To those unfamiliour with dovetails till now. I was told long ago that when you go to buy a piece of furniture. Like a dresser. Look for dovetails as a good indicator as to the quality of the construction. Odds are that if they took the time and care to do a good dovetail. They took the time and care to do everything else to a higher standard too.

Its hard to find good quality construction anymore these days even from traditionally higher end stores. They really dont build em like they used to.
My grandmother had her bedroom set for near 50 years when she died. and it was as solid the last time I saw a year or two before she died as it probably ever was. Really nice set I'd always admired. Unfortunately She lived in Fla and I up here And my mom and uncles sold the house furnished.
Had I had the money at the time. It would have been well worth the expense to have it shipped up here.

Thanks for the compliments again guys. I do pride myself in making things that will be around long after I am gone and look just as nice.

The bad part is many people are looking more for better price than better quality and lets face it the consumer sets the market. This the reason why instead of a woodworking business I had to start a renovation/property maintenance business with a little woodworking on the side.

As far as the desk is concerned Feralpig should have some more updated pics soon. I sent them to him but will let him post as he sees fit since it is his desk.

Thanks again

Well here is an update so far...

I have asked him to make arms for my controllers so that they are more comfortable.

Here they are stored away as they would be if I am not playing...

One thing I did ask him to do is make a channel in the legs so I can hide the wires for my computer in them. and to add a little more beef in the back of the desk because I am planning on making my own triple screen monitor stand similar to this one.

But where he has the 90 degree angles on the top and bottom I will be using "T" connectors. I will be posting pics of that as the build goes along. Also at the base where he has his mounted I will be using a "T" mounted to the back of the desk.

Looks great! Just one question, or two: How much weight can be put on the arms? How are they attached under the table?

I mean, I use my throttle as a hand rest, and the stick has a much used palm rest, too.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

The hinges he used were for a door of some type and from what he said they are solid and have very little flex in them. I will have him post close up pics of the hinge if he can.

Thanks guys.

FP I'm glad you like it. Like I said hopefully I can get it up to on Friday. The one job I was supposed to do today is going to take at least half of tomorrow yet.

As far as the arms are concerned, Here is a link to the hinge that I used.
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=4&filter=pivot%20hinge

From what I have read a set of these are used for turning bookcases into hidden doors to conceal things like safes and safe rooms. If you look at the "more info" section of the link and click on the tech sheet you will see all the specifics of the hinge. The only change I made was that I only used one per arm and I used longer screws to ensure that they would not pull out. The arms are pretty strong though I had to add a piece to the back side of the frame piece that is holding it up to help level out the arms. You could use it rest your arms on and even apply some other pressure to it but you would definitely not want to put all your weight on there, You probably flip the desk anyway.

Hope this answers your questions. As far as how the arms will actually hold up once put to use, we will let you know. I think they will hold up quite well, but FP was already informed that if he has issues with them to let me know and we will work out another way.

Well Thanks to Haxxor aka Dkff for this I love the looks and I Dont feel so cramped up.

It looks better up close, the only thing I am waiting on is a video cord extension for 1 monitor so I can put the computer under the desk on the platform he built for me. The only thing I have to get used to is teh real WIIIIIIIIIIIDE screen. LOL

Again thanks Dave.  :rock :aok :aok :salute
