Tiny Tim
« on: November 04, 2011, 04:03:05 PM »
I wish for the Tiny Tim to be included for Navy aircraft (F6F and F4U-1D and TBM).

Educate this ignorant soul, what do you mean tiny tim?
The real problem is anyone should feel like they can come to this forum and make a wish without being treated in a derogatory manner.  The only discussion should be centered around whether it would work, or how it would work and so on always in a respectful manner.

You know, from Scrooge?

You drop him on the enemy and they weep with empathy and you kill them while they're trying to help Tim out. The crutch would have to be perked, though!

Its a rocket that carries 150lbs of TNT in the nose. It drops like a bomb and when it gets outside of the propeller arc a fusing line snaps and ignites the rocket. Its not real accurate and has a limited range of 1500 meters give or take but its the equivalent of a 2000lb bomb.

Was it put on the body of the aircraft due to load considerations? Curious why it wouldn't be a wing-mounted device or devices.

It served in Europe and the Pacific. The last members of VMF-214 used it and its presence aboard Franklin are one primary reason it was so heavily damaged (mounted weapons cooked off in the hangar). There is plenty of information available on the net but the China Lake images are the best I have seen of it in use.

Deadstik the images of the Hellcat suggest a wing mounting but the F4U had them mounted inside of the gull curve on the bomb hardpoints. I believe the Jug used them in Europe wing mounted against hardened bunkers and tanks. As the images prove it could penetrate 4" armor.

If we ever get the perked ordnance system like Pyro mentioned a few years ago, I would imagine the Tiny Tim would be an excellent candidate for being included.

There is no reason to wait just because you want a perked ordnance system.

If you read Pyro's post adding such ordnance would require a perked ordnance system.

Not without perked ordnance. Aircraft could kill GV's from beyond range of retaliation, hangers from relative safety, and they could just rape a ship.
You started this thread and it was obviously about your want and desire in spite of your use of 'we' and Google.

equivalent to a 2000lb bomb...

OTHER ABUSED USES AND CONSEQUENCES FOR SUCH A DEVICE:
1) Long-range Ho'ing... I see you on the deck... and I fire ze missile... It hits in front of you and you die
2) Supa-Vulching
3) Towns would be 100% again since you get a nice and easy to use uber-rocket to smack a large portion of town at range from a fight/attack craft
4) Crabby would have more than 5 kills a month...
5) Defeat the purpose of bombers? When a fighter can effortless nom a hanger without entering the field ack... "Tiny Tim usually comes in pairs on a plane" 4K worth of ords on the wings alone!
6) Cv hardness would have to be upped from 8K to possibly 24K?? "24K random number but you get what I mean"
7) Flaks rendered useless to inability to effectively kill Tiny Tim carriers

I'm +1/-1 on this... Sure I'd love a nasty toy to play with but maybe this should be put away along with the nuke?

I'm not for or against the Tiny Tim.......but I just don't see why anyone would want it perked...........limited range of 1500 meters or so would put you well within range of field AA, much less fleet AA, and with the current limited range icons on the GV's, you'd be within range of the Wirbles and Osties, too.  Not very accurate, so you're not guaranteed a hit/kill once it's fired.............it's not an air to air missile, so if someone fires one in your path and you don't evade and get killed, that one would be on you, not the guy who fired off the Tiny Tim, no?
I just don't see what the fuss is about........interesting addition someday?  Yes.  Would it have to be perked?  In my opinion, No.  Too much other ordinance of similiar or greater explosive power and effectiveness in the game already unperked to justify slapping a perk value on it.
Just like any of the weapons systems ingame, some folks would no doubt work at it and practice and become very proficient at it's use......but it definitely wouldn't be a fire and forget weapon..........just like most of the unguided rockets already in game, you'd see more misses than you would hits and kills..............
Just my thoughts on it......... :neener:
