Need some tips on 88's
« on: February 01, 2012, 10:37:24 AM »
I CAN adjust the range with C,V keys...I just can't hit anything.
Question 1: Do I want to match the gun range with the plane icon range?
Question 2: I gather you need to lead the plane with your vollies...any general tips as to how much lead?
Question 3: I practiced offline taking aim at the P-38 while filming. Some puff bursts were close; others way off. Will 88's destroy an offline plane circling the base? Base acks don't inflict damage, is th ereason I ask.

Thanks!

I am able to destroy the drones with the 88s in offline mode.  Beyond that I can't really give any tips.

I've tooled around in them a bit, not an expert but...

You're range will be greater then icon range. This accounts for lead and drop.

What I would do is get a friend, go to a field in the rear, main arena and take turns upping a plane while the other shoots at it. You won't kill anything but can work out lead, elevation, time of flight, etc. If you are unable to talk a buddy into it just go to a busy field and shoot at friendly birds. Some will whine and yell but they can't see who is shooting at them.

Final thought, the time of flight is considerable. Take one well aimed shot and do not pull the trigger again until that was has detonated. This is called adjusting fire. You will be surprised how many seconds it takes for a round to travel out to -3k, -5k, etc. If you don't wait you will not be tracking the most recent shot. You won't hit anything by design and will lose confidence in your aim point.

Just some thoughts.

I'd suggest NOT matching your range with the con's icon range. By the time your shell travels to the range you set for it to explode, the con will have moved a significant amount from that distance - especially if he's travelling at/away from you as opposed to across the horizon.

Other than that, it's just practice and observation.

You have to anticipate where its going to blow.  More than 5k out its takes like 30 second.

They drop considerably.

Yep, you have to match the range with where the target will be when the shell gets there. They do drop a considerable distance too, you can see that just by timing the fuze to 5k and firing. It also takes about 5 seconds to get there. You have to coordinate the joystick aiming with the anticipated lead and also adjust the fuze timing.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I was able to drop a few drones offline, mapped c & v to my throttle, which seems to be helping.

Drone popping is good but doesn't prepare you for a target coming at you requiring elevation and fuze timing adjustments, fairly rapid adjustments too.
