Operation Iceberg - Typhoon of Steel Frame 2 and 3 Scores
« on: June 26, 2014, 11:49:26 PM »
Sorry for the delay, was looking at several different things that happened in both frames and was trying to get them out earlier this week, but I was busy trying to get ready for a road trip this weekend.

FRAME 2 -

The Allied Ace was Seighin of the VF-17 Jolly Rogers representing  Capt. Howard Finn (USMC) – Finn was part of VMF-124, the first squadron to take the F4U Corsair into combat in February 1943 at Guadalcanal. He had 5 kills and was an ace at the end of his first tour. In December of 1944 he returned for a tour on the USS Essex where he would score another kill over Japan February 25th 1945. Finn would fight in Korea flying Corsairs as well. He retired as a Full Colonel in 1969.

Seighin shot down a Ki-67 flown by ETC of the 421st FS *Black Widows* and landed successfully.

Total 20 Points.

The Axis Ace was TShark of LCA ~Tainan Kokutai~ representing Takeo Tanimizu (IJN) – Tanimizu was transferred to the Shokaku air group in February 1943, but would not engage an enemy aircraft until November 1943, claiming two P-38s over Rabaul. Tanimizu returned to Japan as an instructor and then to Formosa where he was injured after a low bail out. He returned to Japan and was put on home defense duty in Kyushu. He survived the war and claimed 32 victories.

Tshark shot down 2 FM2's piloted by AKMeatHd and Cane of the Arabian Knights and 1 F6F-5 flown by Ramon of 56 FG "Zemke's Wolfpack". Tshark was shot down by Daffy of the Unforgiven, a friendly fire incident.

No Points awarded.

FRAME 3 -

The Allied Ace was Dougall of JG2  representing Lt John M. Wesolowski (USN) – A veteran of the of the Guadalcanal campaign, he scored 5 victories in the Solomon’s with VF-5 flying the F4F-4 Wildcat. He then went stateside for 2 years as an instructor before returning to the Pacific in January 1945 with VBF-9. He claimed two more victories in the fighting at Okinawa, one of them a N1K2 on April 11 1945, the only to be recorded by the Yorktown’s Air Group.

Dougall was shot down by PROJOEe of the 367th Dynamite Gang.

0 Points awarded.

The Axis Ace was 2Cmex of Anti-Horde representing Shoichi Sugita (IJN) – Sugita saw fierce action in the Solomons and became a leading ace in the campaign and flew in the infamous Yamamoto mission. Sugita continued to fight on in the Carolines, Marianas and scored numerous kills in the Philippines. Sugita was killed while trying to take off on  April 15th 1945 during a US raid on Kamikaze bases in Kyushu. He claimed over 120 kills, but was credited with 70.

2Cmex shot down 5 Aircraft in total. 4 Seafire Mk IICs flown by flatiron (G3-MF), Alpha81 (G3-MF), NAVCAD (G3-MF), wagger (G3-MF) and 1 F4U-1D flown by oHUSKERo (VMF-101 Nightmares). He landed successfully.

100 Points for landing 5 kills.
20 Points for shooting down Allied Ace Mission.

Hope everyone had as much fun as they possibly could, looking forward to my next setup! <S>

There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

To the family of TShark of LCA ~Tainan Kokutai~:

~The Unforgiven~ extends it's heartfelt sympathy and apologies to the family of this fallen hero.

The pilot involved in this fratricide incident has been verbally reprimanded and advanced friend or foe identification training will be conducted prior to the next FSO.

Unfortunatly these things happen in a heated battle.  Sometimes it is hard to change hats from MA to FSO for some. :bhead

 :salute TShark and LCA

Trainee, thank you for the apology on behalf of Daffy.  While it is frustrating at the time, it is just one of the game parameters that makes FSO different from the MA and draws us to it in the first place.  Accidental friendly fire has occurred since man learned to throw, so you can't get too upset when AH mimics reality!  :salute

Thank you for the apology. I was quite upset the night of the incident, bit I do understand that things
like this can happen....it still sucks when it does. I guess I will take Daffy of the KOS list.  :salute
