Photos of the Finnish Hurricane Mk.I HC-452 & its pilot
« on: February 07, 2004, 06:35:17 PM »
The new special show at  Finnish Aviation Museum tells the story of the Soviet strategic bombing offensive at the Finnish capital and other towns during February 1944.

The greatest showpiece is the lone surviving Finnish Hurricane, HC-452. One of the only 13 (or 14?) Finnish Hurricanes this plane was flown in the defence of the capital during 1943-44, though not as a night fighter against the ADD strategic bombing raids.

Few photos from today of the plane. It  it credited with 2 and half aerial victories.

The pilot is mr. Aarno Siro, who flew Fiat G.50s, Hurricanes and Brewsters in the war. He also has flown this exact plane.

The plane was shown to public for the ifrst time in 10 years. It's been at FiAF Museum's storage and is not restored to museum quality as the museum lacks space and funds. This will be changing in near couple years, hopefully.

Mr. Aarno Siro's interview in Finnish:

Fetching the Hurricanes
In this unique document four Finnish Hurricane pilots ponder the backgrounds for Finland's Hurricane purchase and especially the mission to train 12 young pilots to Hurricanes - and ferry them to Finland in early 1940. The HC pilots think back their training, the people and the transfer flight to Finland.

I hope they DON'T restore it, just clean it and preserve it. It's great the way it looks now. These planes are over 60 years old and although it's nice to see them as if they were new a reminder of the sheer age like this one is great too.
