Saw this on the Flypast forum.

Jerry Crandell, who is Mr 190, researched the markings and did the paint work.

I think the chances thats what it looked like operationaly are pretty slim. I know he nows all about 190s but jesus thats the most ugly scheme I have ever see. What a tragedy.

The scheme is accurate but the colors are too contrasty.

Plus why is its landing gear so short?

Everything is right about the colors, contrasty?  The landing gear on the 13 are accurate as well.  Not sure what the fuss is here she be correct in all.

LOL only on the AH board.

Go type "Jerry Crandall, FW190" into Google and see how many hits you get.

Crandall has researched that bird since first seeing it up close before Champlain got it in 1965.  He's written a book on it.  Painted well known art of it, done profiles of it and built models of it.

He's got almost 40 years history researching and dealing with that exact aircraft and you guys are going to tell him he did it wrong? If he didn't get it right, no one is going to get it right :)

I think your mistaken about "only in AH" I think lots of people will wonder at the camoflage value of that paint sheme. And the wisdom of meticulously recreating something that was done hap hazzardly. It just looks wrong. Maybe if the picture was taken in april on a cloudy day in Germany the colours would look more right. But as it is they are way to bright.

Maybe if it was in black and white they would say wow looks incredible!!!!  I have several of his books, and have spoken with him numerous times.  He know his ****, and a lot of the former luftwaffe pilots loved this manfor what he did.  Not many of us can say they sat and had lunch and dinner with Galland or other top aces.  Before opening the piehole do some research and you won't look like such an bellybutton then. Oh pongo this wasn't directed at you ;)

The scheme is accurate but colors are overdone, and I beleive thats directly from Jerry. He was the advisor but the owners did not let him control who painted the plane and exactly how the paint was applied.

Is the colors that strange? I personally don't feel anything wrong with it - I'm pretty much familiar with it, since I did the skin for Josef Priller's last Fw190D-9.

 The RLM colors on the D-13 is a little bit brighter than the version I've used in Priller's D-9, but my choice of colors are from people who build plastic models. If such colors are ever exposed to real sunlight, I think iit's very possible that it may look like that in the real D-13.
