Curtiss P-40Q

Hi all

Just been reading about the P-40Q Warhawk, the late model that very much resembles a Mustang crossed with Griffon engined Spit.  Anyway, I noticed that it can climb to 20,000ft in 4.8mins, and has a top speed of 422mph.  

Anyone know if they made many of these and how they actually performed?

No idea on performance, but I do know that the USAAF decided not to go with this design.  I don't belive they made more than just the prototypes.

Prototype only, never manufactured, the first P-40 that would have been competative.

Ah well.

The B fought well, the Tigers like it more than the E.

The Later models were still work horses, not flashy like the Spit and Pony, or even the Lighting or Jug.  But the P-40 was there, the whole war.

Of course, The last version the P-40Q had 4 20mm cannon...glad they aren't modeling that in here! Basically, by the time the P-40Q arrived Replicant, the P-51 was well into production and there just wasn't any kind of performance gain with the P-40Q over the P-51 that would warrant using precious resources to get it into production.

Nah, the Q prototype flew just after Germany Surrendered.  As it was undergoing acceptance trials, Japan Surrendered.

With the Pony, Bearcat, Jug and Hawg all still in production the Military lost interest in any new Propellor driven aircraft, especially with all the neato ME-262s they were shipping over from Germany.
