Actually, I just checked, and the place I use is not using farthest corner to farthest corner anymore but (length+width)/2 as their size metric.  So, that's a help.  I still wouldn't recommend wider than about 3.5", though, or it won't fit into an assortment of other patches, which are all 3" diameter.

If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.. its not like Heidi is going to say "Fencer, you are out! Auf widersehen!". (uh did I just reference that show)

   I sometimes get to watch that with my better half as well.
