Problems with V.2.14 & nVidia 190.38 Driver
« on: August 19, 2009, 03:07:36 PM »
Anyone else having problems with nVidia current driver and Aces High?

Aces High: Version 2.14 Patch 6
nVidia GeForce/ION Release 190 (190.38_desktop_winxp_32bit_en glish_whql.exe) July 21, 2009

But all working very well using an older driver:

Aces High: Version 2.14 Patch 6
nVidia GeForce/ION Release 186 (186.18_desktop_winxp_32bit_en glish_whql.exe) June 18, 2009

Just FYI, my computer with a 7600GT is running with the 190.38 drivers.
HiTech's 9800GTX is also running the 190.38 drivers.

The only thing I have noticed is a pixel line on the right side of the poly where the cursor texture is placed.  HiTech has not noted any difference since changing his from the Beta drivers for the 9800GTX card.

Is the graphics problem all the time with the new driver.

I had a bit of a burp when I upgraded my driver but a simple restart of the game solved it.

I have the current nvidia driver and I am not having any problems.  Maybe you should identify your particular problem and also post a dxdiag.

Thanks guys.

The problem might be unique to my setup then, which is slightly unusual itself, but the problem is totally repeatable.

i.e. Load 190.38 drivers I get the problem (all the time), replace them with 186.18 drivers and the problem goes away.

It's related to having "Bump Map Terrain" & "Detailed Water" selected, but as I say, works fine with the 186.18 drivers.

Some more screen shots:

My setup consists of a home built system:

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 CPU.

ASUS Striker II Extreme motherboard.

Kingston HyperX Memory - 2 GB.

Two ASUS EN9800GX2/G/2DI/1G Graphics Cards.

Three Dell UltraSharp 3008WFP Monitors.

The CPU, Motherboard & Graphics Cards are all water-cooled. I usually run with an 1800 MHz FSB and the CPU @ 4.05GHz. (I've tried dropping back to stock 1600/3.2, still the same problem)

I have Several Western Digital VelociRaptor Hard Drives, 300 GB, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 10,000 RPM

The internal hard drives are mounted in a Removable Rack system.

i.e. I can shut down, swap drives, start up what is effectively a different computer. I have a drive just for Photoshop, one for Office, one for FlightSimX, one for messing around with Vista etc.

I'm using the SoftTH "triplehead" v1.09 rc1 software to run the three screens (resolution 5000x2560) which up to now has been running very well.

I've currently got three drives dedicated to Aces High while I play around with this.

All three have a clean install of XP Pro (updated to SP3 + High Priority updates as of today). A lot of the windows "services" are disabled (the same ones on all three drives) such that there are 14 background services (not including taskmgr.exe) after startup.

All the Windows "components" are all removed i.e. Messenger, Media Player, etc and the only other programs installed other than AH are the "Hotas Cougar control panel", "CH Control manager", & "TrackIR 5".

All works fine.

DiskB_SoftTH.txt

All works fine. (Although can't take a screen shot, it just comes out black)

DiskC_DxDiag.txt
DiskC_video8.txt
DiskC_SoftTH.txt

With "Bump Map Terrain" the land and sea is overlaid with a black mesh

and with "Detailed Water" the sea flashes from dark black to illuminated bright white.

These were all taken while using the SoftTH software

i.e. at resolution of 5000x2560

If I disable the SoftTH software and go back to just using the center screen, the problem remains.

at the stock resolution of 1600x2560

Not a show stopper for me, as I can just continue using the 186.18 drivers :) I'm just intrigued what has changed to cause the problems for me with the 190.38 drivers.

"and with "Detailed Water" the sea flashes from dark black to illuminated bright white."

Had this once with Patch 4,   I run the 190.38 drivers with a 640mb 8800GTS.  This was on the trinity terrain.

I've had no weird graphic bugs with the last 2 patches after playing intensively.

WTG on your setup though  :D   love the yoke  :O

Thanks Bruv.

The pictures should still be there Kazaa, I haven't deleted any of them, if there not showing it's a problem with the site they are stored on.

Instead of going off topic here (the graphics problem), I'll start a new thread in the Hardware and Software sections for any comments and questions about the setup itself. SoftTH Triplehead setup + SpitSim Controls

Nice System Conan  :aok
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Just to update this, I'm still getting the problem using

Aces High: Version 2.14 Patch 8
nVidia GeForce/ION Release 190 (190.62_desktop_winxp_32bit_en glish_whql.exe) August 21, 2009

But I have found a cure:

In the "NVIDIA Control Panel" one of the options is to "Enable multi-GPU mode", enabling this fixes the problem.

I was using the other option of "Do not use multi-GPU mode", which up to nVidia GeForce/ION Release 186.18 worked very well.

The reason I hadn't "Enabled" this before, is that it halfved my frame rate (remember I'm running three screens). But by playing around with the settings in the "Manage 3D settings" section, I've got the frame rate back to some thing similar or slightly better than I had before.

So now happily using the latest nVidia drivers again, problem solved. :)

I see the same line next to the cursor. It was there in the Beta as well. It doesn't affect the game at all though.

I've had that line for all versions of AH.  It goes away when I turn off AA.  I use it to confirm I have AA on.
