A number of Fighter Ace players have asked about joystick profiles, so I thought starting this thread would be helpful.

If you have a stick profile you are willing to share, please post up here.

Just described the stick it is for, and whether or not it depends on some type of joystick manager software.

While I don't have my profiles handy, here are blanks that you can print out to fill in what you end up mapping for the CH Fighterstick and CH Throttle.

I don't use a profile, but I've had a lot of questions about stick scaling.

For CH gear, and old wise hands you can be pretty aggressive, some max scaling across the board.

For Saitek, Logitech or MS Sidewinder sticks you might want to try something like this for pitch.

This will give you finer control near the center.

Roll scale can look more like this

or indeed even more aggressive, as roll will seldom stall you.
Having more input will make your plane roll faster, with less joystick input required.

Rudder scaling could look something like this

Note the higher deadband setting for the rudder. To help prevent accidental input.

That is not to say you need to set yours like this. Its just an example to give you a place to start from.
How much or how little will depend partially on your hardware, how sensitive it is.
And partially on your hands, and how smooth you are.

Thanks Ghosth.  I just downloaded AH yesterday and have be mapping my Logitech 3d pro.  My progress has been slow.  some questions:

I'm offline only:

When I go into advanced on the contoller napping area, it opens the scaling page but clicking on the scaling box does nothing, it won't select, the scaling function is inacessable.

I want wheel brakes and dive brakes mapped to button 8, is it possible?

I want padlock to center on button 3 and cycle through targets on button 5

Drop bombs/troops on button 11 and fire rockets on button 12

Any joy, suggestions, advice you can provide will be appreciated.

What little I can help:

Thanks Ghosth.  I just downloaded AH yesterday and have be mapping my Logitech 3d pro.  My progress has been slow.  some questions:

I'm offline only:

When I go into advanced on the contoller napping area, it opens the scaling page but clicking on the scaling box does nothing, it won't select, the scaling function is inacessable. Make sure you've selected an analog axis to configure

I want wheel brakes and dive brakes mapped to button 8, is it possible?  I'm pretty sure you can only have one function mapped to one input for any one control mode (mode 1 for planes, mode 2 for GV, etc.)

I want padlock to center on button 3 and cycle through targets on button 5  Not sure, as I don't use padlock

Drop bombs/troops on button 11 and fire rockets on button 12  I believe all those are considered "secondary weapon" and would need to be cycled with the "secondary weapon select" command before pickling with your "fire seconday weapon" command

Any joy, suggestions, advice you can provide will be appreciated.

yeah, the bombs/rockets are under secondary weapons, so you could probably use button 11 as your weapons select switch. or if you have something else for that, use button 11 for something like trim, or something not commonly used.

i use a mouse, joystick configurations are too confusing for me Smiley

Click on the Y axis "Analog inputs Pitch" Then click advanced, and enable scaling.
It should no longer be grayed out.

Don't think you can map them both to the same button, not unless your doing stick set/mode switching.

I want padlock to center on button 3 and cycle through targets on button 5
]You don't want to use padlock, I know its a big change, but trust me.
Padlock leads to target fixation, if your fixated on one target, you have no idea what else is happening around you. In short, you'll die and not know why. Plus AH does not model padlock the way you are used to. If you lose sight of the bogey, you lose your padlock lock as well.  And no you can't see an enemy below your plane, or under your wing, or tail.  Master the hat switch and the snap views. Learn to do a quick scan every few seconds. Your Situational awareness will be much better.

Drop bombs/troops on button 11 and fire rockets on button 12

Any joy, suggestions, advice you can provide will be appreciated.

Here's how my X52 is mapped.  Keep in mind that I often mix things around, but this is how I have it set currently.

Most of the non-shifted commands are programmed as Stick assignments from within Aces High (and left unassigned in the SST programming software) and ALL of the shifted commands are programmed as keystrokes (or macros) from within the SST programming software.

If it COULD be programmed from within AH it was.  You'll also see that the most used commands are left unshifted, whereas the lesser used ones are shifted.  As always, I'm open to suggestions if anyone has any ideas for improvement, and I'm also happy to share with you guys how I did this, so feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

why would you not use the HAT for VIEWS????

With your setup you can not adjust the throttle while lookin' around.

That puts you at a huge disadvantage in a fight.

(my opinion of course...  Just doesn't look like an efficent setup to me.  BUT if you would rather fly at a disadvantage then more kills for me!)

Does Misery truly love company that much?

I mean sure, you can set anything to anything with the AH stick and key mapping.

You can even set your analog axis to trim and fly the plane that way.
Just because you choose to do it that way doesn't mean you should recommend that to others.
For you it may even make sense, but will it to anyone else?

Seriously folks, think first please before posting. These new folks have enough issues already.
Lets try to keep it pretty basic, let them work out the fancy stuff over time.

I use keypad for views but have 2 buttons on my stick one for 100% throttle one 0%. I'm too lazy to buy a throttle, lol.

Welcome Fighter Ace players to AH! Hope you enjoy your stay here. =)

Here's how my joystick/throttle is setup. It's the Saitek X52.

Below is the actual FILE that contains this configuration. Copy it into your Aces High\Settings folder, and you don't have to set everything up manually. Print out the above pictures and you don't have to "guess" what button does what =)http://khrymsyn.infinited.net/Aces%20High/Joystick/saitekx52flightcontroller.jsm

I've also have zipped up my view settings for the aircraft I fly, and put it in this post. Tired of setting views? Here's a place to start!
http://khrymsyn.infinited.net/Aces%20High/Joystick/AH_Views.zip

And for those of you who want to share your own X52 settings, here's the blank templates that I found online years ago I used to make the above pictures :

http://khrymsyn.infinited.net/Aces%20High/Joystick/Saitek X52 Throttle Blank.jpg

Hope that helps at least one person out there. =)
