Can't jump back to pilot position
« on: May 19, 2011, 03:47:55 AM »
I was flying a TBM when I went into gunner position.  I tried to jump back to pilot position by using the 1 key.  It has always worked in the past and I have not remapped my keys.  But now, it won't get me back into the gunner position.  Also my escape key no longer works to toggle the map.  That always worked before too.  I checked the keyboard in other programs and it works fine.  Same keyboard I've always used.  Tried swapping keyboards and I still ahve teh same problem.  I also tried remapping teh keys to the default keys (as they were) but that did not help.  Nor did the "fix key" button.  Any ideas???

Really sounds like a bug  :uhoh - Do you run any other software when using AH ? Also have you shut down AH and relaunched it ? I once found something like a bug after a patch but it went away the next time I used AH. (When the New mouse look was first introduced).  :headscratch:

I personally have never used the "Fix key" button in the AH key map. I feel pretty sure you did use set key when remapping and can for instance see that the clipboard is assigned to the Esc key in the global settings. Just saying so in case my assumption is wrong.

Hi Blagard, good assumptions.  Yea, I tried restartign the game, rebooting the machine, multilple keyboards, etc.  The problem started with the patch before the most recent.  We've had a couple of recent patchess.  I use USB connected boards and not wireless boards.

I don't know if I am unique to this problem, but it is a huge problem when trying to fly buffs and defend myself.  Once I get into the gun position, I can switch to different gun positions, but I can never get back into the pilot position.

Razzor, I feel your frustration. I bet you have scanned the forum for similar problems being reported and not found much.

If I was in your situation I would be thinking now of a completely fresh install of AH. - Back up settings etc perhaps onto a DVD/CD including your films and stuff. Then clear it all out of your harddrive and do a new, clean install. Check that it is all working OK again and then re-instate files from your backup for saved views and whatever else you customised to your own style. Then check again. I have to do that every few years anyway when I upgrade/renew my own PC.

You can only spend so much time trying to find the source of a problem that seems unique to your PC. In the end, if you can't find what has gone wrong, you are not going to be able to fix it.  :frown:

Think about doing a general health check and clean up on your PC if you have not done one in a while.

Edit: For what it is worth, I have tried the TBM myself to see. - There is no problem with it on my PC I can hop around both gunners and back to the pilot with 1

Try deleting your "global.kmp" file from your settings folder.  This will reset your global keys back to the default so you may lose some of your current mappings. But that should clear you up.

I would love to hear if this sorts him out (fingers crossed).  - It certainly going to get rid of his manual attempts to get back to default settings.
I had forgotten that files like that get created when you move away from the original defaults and thereafter, are read instead of the program defaults. So logically, you are getting rid of what is possibly corrupted. AH will create a new global.kmp if he choses to change the defaults in future.
