H2H-development team- Look And Feel ?
« on: July 13, 2011, 09:34:05 AM »
Its my understanding that HTC is working on a new H2H user run system.
My question is directed to the development team.

Will the new H2H system have a way for players to see what servers are available and what settings they are using As I'm sure your aware, Hyper lobby a popular server interface for several flight sims displays available servers and their settings.

HyperLobby flight sim online gaming system
http://hyperfighter.sk/index.php

See animation:

Sims available on Hyperloby:

Available server list for il2, a very popular sim with European players. No icons are very popular with them as one can see the no icon server is the most populated. Considering the new deal with ice burg  would be wise to make no icon servers VISABLE as well as make all H2H servers VISABLE?

Hyper lobby displays server settings when you drill down into a server. Is the H2H dev team working on something similar? :

will HTC have something like this or will H2H servers be private and hidden from public view?

such private driven server systems are the biggest drawback of other WW2 sims, imagine who all might run their own server, who will join and for what reasons  :headscratch:

who would like to join such a server?

having again a H2H Lan option would be great

Hyperlobby is client/server query program. You can only see server details from inside Aces High. They do not broadcast these out to external sources that are "pinging" them.

Also... I have to say your agenda with the no icons is really overbearing at times. The select few that cannot live without harping on no-icons every other day came from IL2. Well, why aren't you still flying IL2?

Advertising servers with or without icons is in no way going to change sales or bring in more people. It's a non-issue and a personal agenda some of the AvA folks can't let go, IMO.

Try to restrain yourself, the OP raises a valid question and it would be a shame to de-rail this thread with more icon vs no icon jibber jabber...there is already a thread on the front page if you really can't resist

Hyperlobby is associated more with IL2 and Ubisoft games, the bastion of the no-icons movement. It has never, ever, ever, been associated with AH in any way in all the 10+ years of Aces High existence. Aces high has never worked the client/server route of pinging and retrieving details. Here out of the blue somebody starts trying to approach the matter as if promoting no-icon servers to the random users of HyperLobby would increase revenues? Right as the AvA is poised to turn icons back on as well. It's a heavy agenda and as subtle as a phone book dropping onto a coffee table.

I did restrain myself, but the issue is getting out of hand.

EDIT: Although sorry if my calling them out on it annoyed you as much as they annoy me.

I guess you read more into his post than I did :) :noid

It seems like a simple query asking if the new H2H system will have a way for players to see what servers are available and what settings they are using (as exemplified by programs such as Hyperlobby)

edit: even completely disregarding the issue of icons on/off, I'd still hope to see something like this when the new H2H system goes live

I suppose I need to learn to read between the lines more

No, not so simple a query... Some folks from the AvA are pouting and saying they're cancelling their accounts and putting all their no-icons hope into the new HTH.

It would be one thing to request a larger name field so that you can better describe the room your in. Regardless of what those setting were....  Instead they go roundabout and circle the issue and make claims like "promoting no-icons will boost your customers" etc...

Don't really need to read between the lines. Oh well my work here is done.

With a retail box version coming out I hope the H2H comes with it.

I am part of the "heavy no icon agenda" and H2H is part of the overall master plan to pry $15 each month out of my own pocket. I'll gladly pay $15 a month to run my own no icon server and give Krusty's life meaning and purpose.

What the hell is it to you whether some H2H arenas with no icons get promoted?

You have already stated there is a market for such a thing that could possibly bring other players over from IL2/hyperlobby.

You had a point of not wanting particular settings forced onto the only AvA type arena available.

So what's the problem now? You just can't stand the thought that others might have an option you don't like?

Quite the opposite. I can't stand that soem are cramming their opinion down my throat at every turn.

P.S I never said there was a market for any such thing. I was tying in the background of the request. I wasn't making a cuasal claim that there was a market ripe for picking. Rather I was saying it's nonsense to bring it up, as this game has never and probably will never even remotely work that way. I even offered an alternative suggestion (longer room titles, IMO the biggest problem of HTH was the short name space limiting what you can describe).

Well, when choices are made some people don't get what they want.

The players that do enjoy the no-icon environment with others playing on the same field as they, are SOL.

Now, they are looking to have the game that they want when the H2H arrives.

Seems like a good solution to me.
