In my long experience on two MMO game forums, mostly AH but also a fair amount on WoW's forums, I have come to fully agree with HiTech's position.  Both HTC and Blizzard will take the occasional good idea from the forums, but mostly do what they think is best for their games, often directly against what players say they want.

On both the AH and WoW forums players making gameplay requests consistently fail to make even the most rudimentary effort to think through the consequences of their suggestions beyond the "It would be cool if I could do this thing!"

Players are not game designers and frequently demand things that would actually hurt their enjoyment of the game.
