IMO Athlon would give more power with less money but if you're going to buy a P4 machine you might want to check if you can have one with socket 478 mobo/CPU.
That way it would be easier to upgrade if/when needed.

A p4 1.3Ghz has the equivilant performance of a 1000 Mhz P3 or 900 Tbird. (Would be somewhat lower in AH than either of these two. ) That system also uses the non-upgradable socket 423, which is now phased out in favor of socket 478.  Integrated sound is also going to result in even lower performance, as it has a much higher CPU utilization.

Honestly for that price I'd MUCH rather have a 1.4 Athlon Tbird or even a P3 1 gig.  (Don't buy a P3, I'm just saying it's a better performer than a 1.3 GHz P4.)

What bloom said.  You can get a Tbird 1.4Ghz system with the same amount of memory for literally half the cost, and it will perform better.

I work at Intel.  In my house I have 4 Intel-based computers with 6 processors in them.  I will most likely only buy Intel chips in the future.

That said... don't buy this system.  I would not wish the 1.3GHz P-4 on anyone.  For that price you could do much better elsewhere.

As Bloom has stated in many other threads... if you are going for the P4, go with the 478 pin 1.9GHz or 2 GHz.  The price then becomes an issue... so time to decide what exactly it is you're looking for.

Depends how much money you have I honestly suggest building it yourself, it takes roughly half a day and you can put more money into the system rather then spend it on someone to A) build it and B) ship it.

I haven't built a system in 10 years, I managed to put mine together.
