Pretty cool story

Not sure if this has ever been posted. Thought it was a good story about a German fighter ace who escorted a crippled bomber out of germany

There is a documentary/video of it on youtube. Where they meet up a # of years later and talk about it infront of a camera.

He wrote, or co-wrote, a very good book called "A Higher Call".

The book goes into much detail of what it meant to be a LW Pilot at the time. Especially one that doesnt buy much of the hogwash from Berlin. There were no rotations for them. It was more "fly till you die". But they did have rest camps for Pilots who got to unhinged. They often flew against terrible odds.

This story shows up about once a year on these boards but it's always a good read and deserves to be re told :)
