Karnak is pretty much spot on.  There have been a huge increase in the number of 'distributed denial of service' attacks in the last week, or so.

Those attacks do not only impact the target, they impact every router between the target and attacker.  Really nothing we, at HTC, can do anything about.

If your traffic happens to be passing through one of those routers, you are probably going to experience a disco, or massive warping, at best.

. . . To roast hitech for something like this without direct knowledge of what is causing the issue is silly.  Could it be their fault, sure, but simply state "It's a hitech creations type of thing" with no evidence to support the claim ridiculous.

I think you read way too much into my question, "Has HTC responded to this reoccurring problem and I just missed it?"

Thanks Skuzzy for the answer.

Yes, it is still going on and they are also hitting a few other companies.

Take up a perk ride at your own risk.  It is getting ugly out there.

I know that Charter's DNS servers have also come under attack, just to add to the overall misery.

The best thing to do to protect your perk points is to use Ping Plotter to see if there is packet loss between you and the servers.  If not, then you can roll the dice.  If there is, then don't do it.  Those perk rides will be there tomorrow, or whenever this thing gets cleared up.

Other game companies are suffering through it as well.  None of the game companies have control over the Internet.

It is not impacting all the players either.  Only those who are unfortunate enough for their data path to cross one of the hundreds of routers being impacted by it.  It is pretty easy to tell if you are impacted by it, or not.

If this was a server problem, it would impact everyone, quite equally.

If this was something we could fix, it would have already been fixed.

I do know how to fix it.  All the Tier 1 ISP's know who it is.  All they have to do is contact the hosting ISP, of those who are participating in this DdOS attack and ask them to shut down those users.  If they fail to do so, then pull the ASN number from the routers, for that ISP.  Ta-Da!  Problem resolved.
