After a brutal shelling during the night, The men on cactus woke up to hear that 11 troop transports were steaming down the slot covered by a large force of Zero fighters. The American force that scrambled from cactus consisted of 14 Wildcats and 10 Army fighters. They would need them all. Carrier aircraft from the Enterprise would launch and help cactus aircraft keep the transports at bay. At the end of the day, seven Japanese transports lay at the bottom of the ocean.

In this Snap Shot the Cactus Air Force will engage the Japanese escort.
