PSU DEATH

My Corsair CX 750 PSU blew out and has killed my PC.
Only 5 Months old.
No Warning.

Corsair users be aware.

Many Corsair power supplies are made by Seasonic, but many are also made by lesser manufacturers as well.  Which model power supply?  Corsair does not manufacture any power supplies.

By the way, it is quite possible to get a bad supply from anyone.  If there is a string of failures (much like Antec had a few years ago), then it would be something which would warrant general concern.  I have not seen or heard of any trends, but I'll keep my ear to to ground.

No matter what, it is never a good day to lose a computer to an unexpected, errant failure.

Sorry to hear it, Dolby.   I believe I have the same PSU; I bought it from BestBuy a couple years ago.   

What do you guys mean by "killed my PC" and "lose a computer"?   Are you saying when the PSU went, the failure ruined your other components, i.e., you can't simply replace the PSU and be good to go?

I would've hoped PSU technology would provide some kind of fail-safe circuit to protect the rest of the system in the event of failure...

Most of the decent ones do. It's very rare that a failing PSU blows the entire PC.

My warrenty is good but my "seller" Cyberpower are being little toejams and want me to poke connectors with paperclips... Hell naw!

Green to black and then plug into mains? That'd be the simplest way to test if it's only a stuck fan.

I've had power supplies fail in the past, but not one that killed the motherboard.

I hope that your motherboard is OK.

While they are wanting a cursory fan test done, the power supply should have around a three year warranty.   If Cyberpower is giving you a hard time, email Corsair and provide them with proof of purchase and details.   Corsair has very good customer service in regards to their warranty procedures.

After replacing the PSU it turns out it was the GPU all along...  :mad:

yep Mr O, the R9 crapped itself and the PSU stopped power to protect the PC. Thankfully it is under a 2 year warranty and all will be fixed by the end of next week.
