Rear view limits. Would it add to the immersion?
« on: April 11, 2017, 08:09:33 AM »
If AH had more real life views, that is the views of a 20's aged man that was strapped into a seat would that add to the immersion?  To account for rear view mirrors on some planes, when you hit the rear view button, what you would see is a limited view as if you were looking in the rear view mirror.

I have tried this after my brother suggested I give it a try albeit I did not have the mirror.   After you get over the shook of not having the extra views, it really added to the air to air fights.   It was heart pumping to await that moment fpr the red to come into view.

Short term it would be pure hell but long term it might add to the game.

It is not clear what you're asking for, but it sounds like you're asking for rear views more limited than historical rear views.  Properly strapped in the pilot should be able to turn his head and torso far enough to look backwards and, aircraft structure allowing it, see the horizontal stabilizer on the opposite side of the aircraft.  This was possible in the Spitfire.

If you were strapped in so tight that you could not move your torso then your shoulder restraints are too tight.

He is, but also asking for unrealistically restricted views to accompany the mirrors.

I have never sat in a fighter and been strapped in so not sure how much movement was possible.  Maybe one of our veteran jet pilots could speak to this.  Probadly a manual or training film that discuss how tight was tight.

You never tighten you shoulder straps, unless you are planing on hitting the ground. If not blocked by something in your view , you can see (i've done this in multiple planes while in flight) the opposite side of the horizontal stab when turning around.

Agreed.

But many had rear view mirrors...

Now the question is - were these standard design implementations?

Rear view mirrors were nigh useless.  A Bf109 in firing range was about the size of a - in a paperback novel when viewed in a Spitfire's mirror.

rear view mirrors in a fighter are for fixing your lipstick.

We dont need them unless HTC implement lipsticks in the game.
