The 'ol 5""

How about keeping the twin 5" from shooting their own ship when swung far enough so that one of the guns  is in line with another 5" turret or part of the superstructure. The round going off on your face is distracting.

modeled from real ship-but real ship had some kind of block  to keep it from hitting

Put a block in just like the block that keeps rear gunners in planes from shooting off their tail (the planes tail that is).
