AR234 recon run
« on: October 29, 2003, 03:12:15 AM »
I scrambled my AR234 from a northernly knight base to help out a friendly vehicle base.  Several friendly vehicles were standing guard at our northern most vehicle base (the vb on the perimeter).  I arrived on station with no ordinance and flew large circles scanning for enemy tanks.  None were spotted.  Then two bandits show up, thats when the fun started...

An A6M and F4U destroyed the VH and started shooting up friendly tanks.  I started making mock attacks on the enemy aircraft to scare them off, however to no avail.  As I was making one mock attack, the Zeke pulled up in a slow straight climb.  Big mistake toko-mojo!  I passed within 30 meters of him, hauled my nose up, and opened fire with my twin 20 milimeter cannons.  The Japanese machine disentegrated under the explosive fire of my cannon shells.  The flaming wreck fell to the ground as I made fun of the pilot on channel 1.

The F4U began closing on me as I was ciricling the soon-to-respawn VH.  I momentarily lost sight of the Corsair, and the next thing I knew my #1 engine exploded in a hail of tracer fire.  I went into a steep dive and opened fire with my fixed tail guns.  My plane was smoking furiously and I heard on the voice radio "They got fatal, hes going down".  Not quite yet.  The F4U shuddered momentarily, then pitched its nose up violently as its tail section exploded off.  The blue machine smashed into the ground and exploded.  I was happy.

By now my AR234 was in very bad shape.  I had only 1 engine, was slightly above 200mph, and was losing fuel.  With less than 45 seconds of fuel left, I dropped gear and flaps, and set up on a very short final to the vehical base.  Touched down at 110mph and came to a stop right by the hangar.  *Fatal1 has landed 2 kills in the AR234*  Woohoo!

AR234 recon run

That's good stuff. Had a small highlight myself yesterday too.

Yesterday a friendly field was harrassed and I took off in my trusted G-10. Alas, the attacking force consisted of at least three 262's so I was quite helpless. Bagged a P-51 and a Spit and then had to ditch because I ran out of fuel. About a second before I could type /.ef a 262 vulched me.

Thoroughly annoyed I wanted to take off again. But what can I do against a 262, being a very average non perk plane user? But then light dawned. Long ago I promised myself never to fly the 262 on-line unless I got over 2000 perks. Counter stood at 2001 yesterday. So I figured 'what the hell' and took off in a 262. Fast, but damn it climbs slowly! Eventually got to 26k (!) because I wanted to get rid of a high bandit, didn't want to risk being bounced in my first 262 sortie. It turned out to be a P-51 who tried to outrun me (yes really). I don't know how he managed it but I ran into violent compression at 700mph but managed to keep control and the P-51 in sight. He tried to evade but I suspect he had control problems because I could easily follow him. And spraying with multiple 30mm's is FUN! So he went boom. Big deal huh, but my first 262 kill is a moment to cherish.

Then I circled around a bit but when I found bandits it was a pair of co-alt 262's... 1 against 2 in my first combat sortie in a 262 against experienced pilots working together? No. So I bravely turned away and fled. One of the 262's followed for a long time at 1.5k but couldn't close the gap of course. It was tempting to try to fight him as I was light on fuel, but with this little separation it probably would have been suicide anyway. So I safely landed when he gave up.

Boring? Not for me. I flew the 262 in the MA, killed and lived.
