Darwin Award implies DEATH - as in unable to pass-on unsuitable genes.

Here we are all envisioning a gruesom, but deserved, end to this guy at the mouth of a raging, steel-toothed, dog.

And you offer up minor lacertations? What a let down.

Yeah, this is no Darwin Award.  The guy has to lose it life or his abillity to contribute to the gene pool by other means for it to be a Darwin Award.

My father used to work in the security business. The primarily used Shep's, but he said the Lab was a more loyal guard dog. The only problem with Lab's was they tended not to bark warnings or before attacking. They also had a couple of Rottie's, which he thought were the stupidist dogs on earth.

One of the more protective breeds I've run across is the blue-heeler.  They are extremely devoted companions for small children as well as great family pets.  Their only drawback is that they are high-energy canines and need lots of exercise and attention.

Had a German Shepard when I was a kid. Lived on the outskirt of a small town. No leash law but we had kept him in a fenced yard as our collection of neighbor's shoes was complete.

Anyhow, there was a small mutt about half his size that came by just about every day for a year. This mutt would stand next to our fence and bark and bark at my dog, I think he was taunting him. Well, one day my dog got loose. The first thing he did was find that smaller dog and kill him. I tried to feel bad about it, I really did.

Mini,

Breeding Chief to the Local Chocolate in Spring 04.

Breeding Chief to English Kate in Fall 04.

Also planning a breeding of Chief's littermate (Chloe, owned by my partner) to a distinguished English hunt titled stud dog, probably Spring 04 as well.

That's all that is planned for 04 so far.

A possible breeding of my brother's black Megan to a different titled English stud in Fall of 04 as well, but that's really not confirmed. Megan is the same breeding as Chief but three years younger (later litter).

Went to the shelter again the other day. They had a pair of Choclate labs someone had turned in. Both about 5 years old.

My wife would kill me if I did it again!

Most of what said in here about sheps I have to agree with:

Protective:  In texas we didnt have a fence yet NO other neighborhood dog would enter our propertyline at all when we moved in

Protective of kids:  Mines gone after me once when I was spanking one of my kids once (yes I spank my children its good disceplin and eaqually good exercise)  DIdnt bight me bad just barked and kinda grabbed my arm with her teeth

Strong:  During 4th of july one year she got soooooo freaked out over the fire works she broke her leash by streightening the eye bolt on her run about and then tried to get underneith the house by ripping off the aluminum sideing with her teeth.  She succeeded and it took her for ever to come out.

Fun:  If she had her choice between me throwin the frisbee or giving her my pork chop she'd choose the frisbee. :)
