Graphic tearing
« on: November 09, 2003, 11:16:47 AM »
When flying 190s or 109s I notice some graphic tearing around the cockpit frontal area (starting at the right side). The effect is like very small pieces (squares of 8x8 pixels more or less) of the cockpit being drawn to the left of their position and then in their correct position and so on, all of that very fast. I havent noticed same problem with any other plane. It starts almost unnoticeable, and after some minutes that effect is more than evident.

System:
AMD XP2100
512Mb
GF3 Ti500 64Mb
SB Audigy 2
DX 8 over W98SE.

Enable vertical sync for the video card driver, or check the option in Aces High Video setup for limiting frame rates.

Even with fps limited to 60 I get most of the time 62 and the tearing is still present for 190s and 109s canopy frontal bars.

I'm using detonators 44.03 and they have no option to enable/disable vertical sync.

Anyway, thanks for the support Skuzzy.

If you install the omega drivers you'll gain the ability to switch v-sync on or off, even if you go back to detonators the option will remain. The g3 doesn't do well with anything beyond the 41.xx

With that card, I would recommend using either the 30.82 or 41.09 drivers.  The tearing is caused by the video card overwritting video buffers with new data while the old data is still being displayed.
Enabling vsync stops that.  Try limiting the frame rate to 45.  The frame rate limiter in the game is there to help with this problem.  Or grab the tools described above and enable vsync.

While that makes sense, why is that the described effect is only present with 190s and 109s canopy frontal bars? If I look everywhere else than frontal with these planes, the tearing stops. And no tearing at all within any other vehicle, plane or at tower.
