The colour schemes are based on that that of the 361st Fighter Group based in Bottisham in Cambridgeshire in England.  Geraldine has the more accurate scheme of the two. Lou IV was the mount of the CO of the 361st, Col. Tom Christian.  Lou IV's blue scheme arose from a famous sequence of air to air colour Kodachrome shots which were often printed with a distinct blue cast.  In fact the actual colour used was probably Olive Drab as seen on Geraldine.  Having said that this is still subject to some controversy. Some suggested insignia blue, darker than that on Lou IV, was used at one point when supplies of OD was low.  I find that hard to believe, let's face it. When was the US Army ever short of Olive Drab?
