Here's some things to try:
A. Some information for me, what kind of soundcard is it?
B. Do you connect by modem? If so, try disabling the connection icon in the taskbar. I know it sounds funny, but it often helps. Do this: My computer -> dial-up networking -> connection menu up top -> settings -> uncheck "show icon on taskbar when connected" This will likely make a small difference.
C. Make sure your soundcard and video card are not sharing the same interupt. If you are using Windows 98, go start -> accessories -> system tools -> system information -> click + symbol next to hardware resources -> click IRQs. Look and see if your video card is on the same interupt as your soundcard. If it is, let us know.
D. Try decreasing your view range when near a con to increase framerates. (Press shift f1 - shift f3 for the available ranges.) Also turn off ground clutter when in a tank with control c.
E. Make sure you don't have any useless programs running in the background while you play AH. One particularly bad one if you have Office 97 is called fastfind. This program is basically useless, and really kills your system performance. To disable it right click the start button -> pick explore -> go to startup folder -> remove fastfind from this folder.
Good luck!
