New York Times: Iraq offered last minute deal
« on: November 06, 2003, 10:54:01 AM »
Smells like BS to me, but what do I know...

My thought is, why bother with the back channels? SH trying to avoid looking like a coward? Save some face? Why bother. If the deal was brokered, everyone would know he allowed inspections again. The U.S. would have crowed about it for months....

Another attempt by a clearly liberal media outlet to discredit the Bush Admin?

Amazing how quickly this story is tossed by the neocons as "liberal media tripe" while the Clinton "Sudan Deal" remains an urban republican legend.

Not conservative OR liberal here..

Just calling it as I see it...

The story looks like BS...sounds somewhat illogical, and yet the times runs with it...

It seems Bush opponents are just throwing toejam against the wall to see what sticks...

The 16 words....nah...

The Aircraft carrier Banner....forgotten..

Lets try this!

It is illogical.

The WMDs and programs were destroyed in 91 - according to UNMOVIC and atomic energy comission - and Iraq was complying with UN resolutions - including 1441.
UNMOVIC team reported full cooperation and unlimited access and Hussein invited CIA to send teams and inspect anything they wanted.

There was nothing else he could have offered that would interest US government and the only thing they wanted he could not offer - Iraq itself.

The whole "offer" was a total non-event, much like the Sudan's offer of OBL - whom we could not have prosecuted for lack of evidence.
