Suggestion for Map-makers
« on: November 19, 2003, 08:45:34 AM »
Does anybody have any thoughts on changing the relevance of the current strat system in regards to factory supplied airfields?

At the present time the factories seem to provide targets for milkruns without any noticable affect on the bases they serve due to the long period of time before the effect of a good bomb run is felt.

My suggestion would be to emulate what Fester has done with GV bases on his map by adding a strat target (town) next to his GV bases which must be taken down before the field can be captured.  If the maps were made so that one set of factories supplied only 1 or two airfields AND change the regeneration time of the factories to 1 hour it would not only add legitimate targets for offense but add incentive for defensive gameplay as well and create more balanced activity instead of the current steamroller effect in the Main arenas.

Advantages would be more crucial bomber targets, and would add the effect of moving some of the furballs away from the bases to the factories.

Basically, add about 20 more factories to each country and let them have a much greater effect on field resources.  The fighters will assume a more natural role of bomber interception and escort; the furballs will remain; the strat people will be happier; and the bomber people will have more critical targets.

It's only a sugestion......

You're wrong in your assumption that fighters would assume a more "natural role of bomber interception".  Those that want to fight bombers will, those that don't wont.  With more targets you have more undefended options.  They'll still be milkrun targets, only they're be more of them and they'll be more impacting.  I completely fail to see how that would be a good thing.

agree with deja... those who don't like fighting the bombers can't really be forced to do so... if you make it more of a bomber game then you will just make them less interested in the game.

If you make a strat target important enough, people will swarm to defend it.  Look to the HQ as an example.

Maybe regional radar centers, instead of making the HQ the only radar center?

The whole idea of "swarming to defend something" is silly and ineffective.  If you're not up already, you really aren't going to defend anything.  It's the problem with trying to set stuff up that has to be actively defended.... it won't be.  There will only be belated response.  9 times out of 10 the bombers are destroyed after they release their ord.  That's not defense it's revenge.

The Rooke HQ gets hit daily.  That doesn't make us post defensive fighter patrols.  Who wants to fly in circles for an hour or two, just for the chance to get popped by a 30k B-17?

That's not the point.  People see the HQ being attacked, they tend to defend it.  Maybe the rookies are just used to having a flat HQ, but when the knight HQ is under attack, we get a good five to ten people defending it.  No one wants to play without radar.

Mos, and your fellow HQ defenders. I take my hat off to you all. :) That was a very refreshing read. You guys understand the importance of HQ and take steps to defend it. This is much better than whining when your dar goes down, and then whining to HTC to have the game changed ie. "harden" the HQ (by which they mean make it so difficult to destroy the HQ that people will give up trying).
