IIRC, Bf109E3 had nose-mounted MG-FF 20mm cannon, and no wing armament.
The nose cannon gave vibration problems in the engine, and so in the next version, E4, the wing armament was recovered and the nose mounted weapon was erased.

I don't think it's an e model at all. There are no visible struts on the tail. It's probably an F model IMO.

Hi
This plane is Horst Perez's E-4/N that crash-landed in England on September 30, 1940. Its kind of wierd for an E-4 as it has the older E-3 style canopy and it also seemed to mount gun cameras in the wings. The N designation meant it was powered by a DB601 N running on 100 octane fuel. As for wing and engine guns on Emils: No Emil ever mounted an engine weapon as this wasn't really worked out till the F. The E-1 had 2 wing-mounted Mg-17, the E-3 had 2 MG-FF, and the E-4 and E-7 had the improved MG-FFm. This particular plane did have the wing cannon and they must have been removed and covered over during the planes restoration, it now rests in a British museum.
thanks GRUNHERZ
