Hunting: For or Against and why?

Ok ..I'm on record as being a Serious ANTI.  You see-there's this guy at work that goes into the woods and shoots squirrels and just leaves them there.  Just dead on the ground.  He giggles at work saying, "Aw you should have seen this brain shot I got this weekend." Pisses me off.  Capt. Appathy has made me think twice about hunting though.

My new boss is a serious Brid hunter and I'm impressed with the level of skill involved.  The dog etc..  its kinda cool.

I believe the state of Pennsylvania should lead the nation by putting a bounty of $5.00 on every Canadian goose killed and turned in for disposal. The dispatching of these ‘fowls’  would not necessarily have to be by firearm.  A baseball bat would be fine.

A lifting of any bans on hunting in residential areas would be necessary but in these locals firearm use would be limited to .22 cal birdshot.  (You’d have to get close and do a ‘head shot’)

‘Redemptions Centers’ with dumpsters setup at convenient locations would be a ‘must’.  When everything was running smoothly you could drive up, toss in your ‘kills’, collect the cash and be on your way in a few minutes.

This program would take us all to a much higher ‘Quality of Life’ for the present and future.

   Please understand, I’m serious.

I'm for hunting.
1.  Pisses off urban liberals and tree huggers.
2.  Animals are yummy.
3.  The ones that aren't yummy make great live action targets.
4.  When we finally revolt against the socialist regime, and America resembles a cross between Mad Max and Snow Crash, it will be nice to have a source of fresh meat.

Pro-hunting here.

Its good meat and we killed off all the big predators that controled the herbivor populations.  Now we need to do the job.

And yes, I'm a Liberal.  Grew up in the countryside, now live in the suburbs.  Not sure where that puts me in terms of "urban Liberals".

I know you are serious and I'd vote for the same law in Oregon.

Definitely for, provided you use what you kill.
Grew up in farm country. We were allowed to shoot as many deer as we wanted a year if they were destroying crops. My family (whole family, uncles, cousins, etc.) probably killed (and ate) 20-25 deer a year. Also hunted squirrels, dove, rabbits, pheasant, but always ate what we killed. If deer went unhunted where I'm from (rural PA), they would become a nuisance very quickly.

*I have been known to shoot a squirrel with a high-powered rifle when I get really bored during deer season. They're tree rats, who gives a chit.

Haven't hunted since I left that area, but if I moved back, I'd dust off the .270 and mow some more bambis down.

In Salem, they actually have a spot right next to the women's prison where people come and feed these flying rodents.  There are even crossing signs on the road with ducks on them and traffic comes to a halt when these fowl creatures want to cross the road.  I've never stopped unless there are cars in front of me stopped impeding my way...fortunately I've never hit one.  I'd hate to have to clean that off of my car.

PRO HUNTING HERE!

I grew up where all I had to do was step outside and I was in the woods hunting. When I was in high school I could hunt from 5am till 7am and if I killed something in the morning I knew my granddad would come down and finish cleaning what I started. Then it was into one of the 4 deep freezers we had at home for the meat unless it was taken to the kitchen for grandmom or granddad to prepare. Then I knew when I got home that afternoon if it was squirrels that we were having squirrel dumplings with wild rice and stewed tomatoes.....HOT DAMN WHERE'S MY GUN I HAVE A SQUIRREL NEST IN THE TREE OUTSIDE THE HOUSE! I probably took between 40-50 deer from the time I was 10 till I turned 21. I don't hunt for trophy animals and never have. I don't deny that having one on the wall would be nice but it is very low on my order of how to provide low cost high quality meat for the family. I also use bow/arrow, black powder, and rifles while hunting deer. For birds (dove, quail, turkey, phesant) I use an old Browning 12 gauge that used to be my granddad's shotgun.

I don't hunt like I used to but I still try to go quite a bit. I love to bird hunt (especially doves and quails) but the quail population here has taken a huge hit due to wolves and coyotes moving into the area. They destroy the nests and eat the eggs as do wild pigs. Now those are pest animals with no bag limit and I will gladly shoot any and leave them laying where they are killed. Anyone who has had to leave a deer that was just shot because of a pack of coyotes coming in will understand that rationale. Also coyotes are beginning to become the predator on Whitetail deer here in Alabama. Last year I witnessed two deer in a food plot about 350-400 meters from me get jumped by 15-20 coyotes. The deer made a fight of it but got swamped by the pack. I shot several rounds into the area with my .30-30 Winchester but at that range it was like lobbing a mortar round in there. So I bugged out while they were occupied with their dinner.

SOB,

You definitely sound like one of them Kalifornia's that moved up North.

No need to deny it, you're like a glass onion, man.

Golly-geen Kalifornians!

Oregon... nice place to visit, but please don't stay!

Reschke... how manly it is of you to let your granddad do the dirty work for you? :aok  Please tell me you learned to gut your own mammals at some point in your life.  Or do you even buy your ground beef pre-packed into nice little hamburger patties?

P.S.  If you use "meters" as a unit of distance, you sure as hell ain't born and raised in Alabama.  If I am mistaken, please explain your use of the metric system.

Rather indifferent, as long as it's eaten, and  no one comes near my house and starts shooting up the wildlife, it doesn't bother me that much.

Hate trophy hunting, it serves no purpose other than to show off to other inbred hicks.

The people that lived in this house before i did hunted.. I can tell because i found a deer leg under my porch just recently.. makes me sick, to be honest.. Don't like animal parts.. bleh.

Hunting animals for fur is the thing that really pisses me off, it just isn't necassary anymore.
