Is Aces High used in training/classroom/flight orientation or any other way at the U.S. Air Force Academy or any other military or civilian flight training facility?

Somewhere I got the impression it was, maybe as an intro and practice for situational awareness training.

It's been used in the past, I think it was the Tirpitz scenario, ask Mjollnir and... name escapes me at the moment!

Seems to me I remember a rumor that they had a block of accounts. Never verified though other than Tirpitz.

AFA cadets were in command during the Bigweek Scenario, they had a war-room set up there.

So is this the extent of Aces High involvement with USAFA? Any other use of Aces High by USAFA or any other combat/flight simulation academic or training institutions?

That was pretty dang neat. Didn't realize USAFA did something like that. From appearances sake it would seem likely that they would use it in the future. Neat as hell.

why would they train on Aces High when they have their own million dollar simulators that involve modern day aircraft. If they did it might just be on their freetime, though they cant even have radio's in their room until sophmore year.

to get a feel for the vagaries of command and control under the fog of war. the AH people who participated in that scenario were a cost free source of c&c variable.

Shane hit the nail on the head (and glad you guys enjoyed the article;) ). Unfortunately, due to Academy politics, official cadet participation squashed what was an otherwise promising tool for training our future Air Force leaders.

BTW Raptor, no...they don't have multimilliondollar modern flight sims for the cadets to play on. For the reasons mentioned in my report, a WWII flight sim is a better place to start them, and more cost effective. Even if they did have those high-dollar sims, they could only afford a half-dozen at the most; not enough to get the kind of experience these cadets got in Hostile Shores.
