Rolling and roll rate

I understand how using roll rate is a good defensive move,  or I think I understand.  But  is it any help offensively?    Under what circumstances?

Thanks for any opinions, trying to get better.

If the target in front of you can roll faster than you, he has a defensive option. If you roll faster than him, he has one less option.

Roll translates to direction change. Planes that roll faster can change direction faster.

A high roll rate allows you to get "out of plane" (no, not bail )with the enemy plane behind you.
If he aligns he wings with yours then he is "in plane" with your line of flight. All that's required then is to pull a little lead (deflection) and boom! Staying out of plane with the guy behind you spoils his shot somewhat.

So, that's a defensive move.

Now the opposite holds true for the attacking plane. If you're flying a plane that has a better roll rate you will find it much easier to roll into plane with the guy you're following and no matter how he rolls you can easily remain saddled up for the shot.

If you're going to be using your roll rate to ditch people who've saddled up on you (I sure hope you're using 190's, because it won't work with anything else..), don't forget to chop your throttle.
