You can go to Warbirds, it's $1.50-$2.00 an hour there, depending what plan you sign up for.

OTOH, you can join Fighter Ace for $9.95 unlimited.

Whatever floats your boat!

$30/month is a good price for the game.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fit into everyone's budged.  I don't believe that was necessarily the goal.

I don't belive HTC is looking for 100,000 customers at $10/month.  The are looking for a smaller crowd that is willing to pay a tad bit more for their on-line enjoyment.

Perhaps the government should pay for it!

Would anyone venture to guess what is HTCs cost per a customer?
Office rent and salaries are fixed and do not depend on the number of players.
They also have to pay for bandwidth, servers, tech support, accounting. Those expenses are more or less proportional to the number of users.

If they have $10/mo cost per user, replacing one $30 account (net $20/month) with 6 $15 accounts (net $5/month X 6 = $30) will cause them to make one third more money, not triple it - at the same time significantly increasing the workload and somewhat reducing the quality of the clientelle. Also, explosive growth would require to quickly buy 6 times the servers, hire dedicated tech support and customer service personnel, train them, rent a new office to locate those servers and personnel,  etc. That would cost millions and require months.
If they do not do that, they will get blasted for poor service/connects, etc. - remember the success of UO or AOL flat rate and all the trouble they got into? If they (HTC) do that, the majority of $15 account holders may decide to quit after 1-2 months leaving the company holding the bag.
With $30/months dollars a guy who decides to spend that kind of money is likely to stick for a while.
Also, a guy who can afford $30/month is not likely to demand that the game be able to run on 4-year old computer.
Just by being the state-of-the-art and requiring top-notch hardware AH limits it's audience to those who can afford it.

Of course many peole cannot afford that kind of money, especially those outside of US and children/students. I sympathise with them, but playing AH is hardly a necessity.

AH is quite expensive even according to US $10/mo standards, though for many WB is much more expensive to fly. Well, AH is a premium product, I may even say a lixury.

Thank You Miko!

Please copy that response, so you can paste it on other "AH costs too much" threads.

Alot of people do not realize the expense and effort that goes into this type of on-line venture.

One 20 ounce Coke costs me $1.00US.

I justify my $30/month by drinking one less pop per day.

If you look at how much entertainment costs... and how many hours your spend flying in AH... I find it hard to believe AH is not a huge bargain. Were talking a whole month of entertainment, every night if you want, for the same cost of 3 movies and some junk food or two large pepperoni pizzas. How is that not a deal?

Great replies.

I think most of us here have spent 10 minutes or more in MMP environments that more or less were for all-comers.

We all have good reasons for paying more 30 bucks a month.  My reason involves the banana factor.

I left most of the bananas behind when I elected to spend more dough to fly.  Heck, I'd pay some of those guys 30 bucks if they'd sell their computers and do the world a favor.  But, when one of us pops off in Aces High, it is easy to forgive it as somebody having a bad time.  It's rare and forgivable in most cases.

I really like being able to squelch whole channels instead of just a guy at a time.  I am color-tuned by now anyway and the radio doesn't distract like it used to.

A point?  Okay, a point.

My past experience with MMP was not as good as this by any stretch.  Does the dues play a role in that? Yes, I think it does.

I hope our hosts are making some money on Aces High.  If they are not, then my time on-line will go if they go.

Salute friends and foes,

Raider

Well. $30.00 will get you maybe two cases of mediocre American beer. Which ends up being pissed away anyhow. Or maybe three trips to the house of celluloid where you can catch Meryl Streep act like a frumpy house frau who cries over the incredible lack of fashion in her country kitchen while also lamenting her stalwart farmers wife destiny....but pass on by the popcorn/soda pop stand cause you won't have any dinero for that on this budget.
Or... one cable TV pay-per-view event where you can watch Marky-Mark perform in a daring triple tag team wrestling event co-starring "Divine" the obese transvestite and Don "The Incredible Mister Limpet" Knotts.  $30 might buy you one issue each of Penthouse, Playboy and Hustler. (which actually, aint a bad deal come to think of it!) but if you're "whining" about $30/mo then your not "real man" stuff anyhow so let's just skip talking about stuff that could get you arrested or kicked out of the "Quiche Club."
A tank and a half of gas...  one hockey game ticket...  36 pairs of "on special!" white athletic tube socks, one half a one pair of "cheap" running/walking shoes,  two large pizzas with a bag of Tostitos and two bottles of warm Pepsi...

And an initial consultation with a resume writer so you can get quit being a bag boy at the local Safeway and jump into a fast track career as an answer-operator at 1-900-Hunks-R-US.

I _really_ wish $30 was a tank and a half of gas here in Sweden. It's more lika half a tank at the moment.
