P-51C Tuskegee Airmen Background

I had the days off and was reviewing some of my forgotten photos from last spring. I thought someone might enjoy using this for their background. It’s 1735x1249.

Back in the mid 70s when I was a teenager, that 51 was in pieces next to Jack Sandberg's hanger in Crystal Minnesota.  I used to sneak into the cockpit and plot and plan how I was going to somehow get it home to my parents garage :)

Jack Sandberg was killed in a 51 crash but was best known for rebuilding warbird and racing engines.  He had a P63 Racer called Tipsy Miss that used to roar over the houses.  There was a day back in 77 or 78 when the EAA's XP51 was their for engine work, there were two P51Ds getting engine work and the C was sitting next to the hanger.  I'm not sure how often that's happened where three different model Mustangs were in the same place at one time outside of WW2.  It was a great place to hang out for an aviation nut.
