BERLIN (Reuters) - Germans, shedding a six decade long aversion to national heroes, picked Konrad Adenauer ahead of Martin Luther and Karl Marx as "best German" of all time in a popular television contest amid a rising tide of patriotism.
In a country that since the Hitler era dared not show pride in anything but its beloved Deutschemark currency, millions of television viewers cast ballots in a three-month long search for national heroes before selecting the first West German leader.
But Claudia Schiffer and Nobel-prize winning author Guenter Grass were not even among the first 100.
How could Claudia not be in the top 100 best Deutche?
My god the tragedy....
