Author Topic: Need help with Printer Purchase (Read 651 times)

My printer just outted itself after 5 years of loyal service. It was an older Deskjet by HP, I don't know if I should go with another HP or maybe a Cannon or something? That "Bubble Jet" always sounded... Not good... anyone have experience with printers lately and care to shed some light?

So I need a new printer by monday and here are my requirements:

Needs to print color (Now a days the ink, have some high res.)
Needs to print B/w at a decent speed
Needs to be well priced.
(So that probably means no Laser Printers ... for now)
------

Any help is appreciated thanks!

BTW.. I hope all of you had a good thanksgiving...

I have been happy with lexmarks. we have 3 of them in our home and they all run well.
no problems with jamming or anything.

I will never buy another epson again.
I have had 2 of them .
they never worked well. and they did not last.
I tghink for the first month it looked great. buty then it went to hell

I have never tried canons.
was allwasy happy with hp years ago.

I am running the lexmark z55.

I have a Brother..scannner/fax/printer thingy all in one. It's a laser printer, it works really well. My sister uses a Canon, It's a big pain in the ass. I would stay away from Canon, I've had nothing but problems from them.

Our Canon S400 works good, the Lexmark I have in my office at work is junk.

Stay away from Canon BJC-2100, I cant speak for the other models but the trays, paper feeder and all broke off within a year and the ink runs out within 3 months with just regular use. I'd like to shoot my Canon with a Cannon.

Yeah, my sister's canon (not even sure of the model) blows really hard. The damn paper won't even feed anymore, it takes forever and a day for the damn thing to respond. The paper tray doesn't even stay on anymore, you have to feed it, one paper at a time. So, I think Canons are junk.

Epson-great resolutions for the price.

I had an HP, it had an advertised resolution that wasn't achievable. I spent a couple hours on the phone trying to get the top resolution to work, it was unselectable, only to be told by HP persons that it couldn't be done.

Never again.

Look at the dpi at which your printer needs to print, and buy color printers that allow you to buy separate ink colors. The all-in-one cartridges will break the bank. Most of the brands will do a great job, it's a matter of which ones are economical to run extensively.

I don't know about a lot of the others. but I have the canon I-550, and am very happy with it.

it's reasonably fast, quiet, doesn't seem to run out of ink too fast, and seperate tanks for each color of ink(one of my favorite features. no more throwing out a whole color cartridge because one of the kids printed out a huge amount of blue).

also the tanks have a plug that pops out making the easiest i've seen to refill. for things other than photos I refil the ink, the colors aren't exactly the same as with factory ink but for $12 I can get enough black ink for about 12 refils (factory tanks are $14)
for about $17 I can get a color refil kit with enough for 4-5 refils in each color (factory color tanks are $12)

but if doing something artistic or where exact color shades are important you should use the factory tanks.

I've had no problems with it (had it for 2 years), and I think I paid $89 for it.

I've always been happy with my HPs.

I Ran an HP855C for almost 3 years before it had problems with the feeder. Still printed fine, but had to run the pages in one at a time. Replaced it with a 930C, which I've had for over two years, and its still going strong and sharp.

The drawback with HPs and their integrated print heads is that they have the most expensive ink costs of the major brand printers (see the cost of ownership graphs in the tom's hardware article above. However, after two bad experiences with permanent print heads - one Epson, one Canon, I prefer the HP solution - even with the higher long term cost.

We have had several HP printers, they seem to have good quality and last a long time
