Well, I went to the mall and picked it up, But I am severly
disappointed.
I knew from the website and reviews and what not, that it was going to be more of an "action" game than a Hardcore sim.
It's four disc's, I installed it and started it up. I read up a little bit on it in the instruction booklet, not very complicated. Very few key commands.
Couldnt select custom mission so I started an Instant action mission. This is when I became dissapointed. I can only select from three different airplanes. The Hurricane Mk I, the Stuka, and the P-40B.
I guess you have to unlock all of the other 25 airplanes. So I start up an Instant Mission, Me vs three Stukas. I figure Im gonna line up and shoot all of them down, but they were coming straight at me, So I go Head On with them and fire a quick burst and zoom up and around to get on thier six. But there not there. They are behind me! And pumping lead into me, Thankfully, The damage model is basically a scale and when the scale goes to zero your dead.
These Stukas zipped all around, almost as manuverable as my Hurri! I immediatley quit the mission, and started a campaign,
My first Mission was to intercept Stukas attacking Dunkirk. I shot down about 7 or 8 Stukas But still they managed to sink most of my transports, I quit the mission.
Graphics-Aircraft textures, are poor, as are the models. Remind me of EAW, only better looking. Terrain is good, Lots of trees.
Sound-Great, No problems here.
Gameplay-SWON has good gameplay and runs great on my machine (which isnt that beefy), Their are no Cockpits, which I dont like. And while in the "cockpit" thier is only one other view, your six view. External views are cool but difficult for me to master.
Flight model-What flight model...There is none.
Over all, if you picked this up and sat it back down. Good. You probably didnt want it anyway. If you like action Sims, and WWII airplanes you may like it.
As for me I will be returning it for Lomac.
